The Post 182 American Legion team from Leesburg begins its season by winning the Memorial Day Classic at Darton College.
ALBANY – The Post 182 American Legion team from Leesburg began its season by winning the Memorial Day Classic at Darton College.
Post 182 went 3-1 in the tournament, which featured Albany Post 30 Sr. and Jr. teams, Wiregrass and Vero Beach.
On Sunday, Post 182 defeated Wiregrass, 9-8, and lost to Post 30 Jr., 7-4.
In Post 182’s opening game, the Leesburg squad drew four walks, were hit three times and scored six runs in the first inning before holding on for its third one-run victory of the tournament.
Baconton Charter’s Brock Pinson relieved starter Brent Kyzar from Lee County and picked up the win, while Deerfield’s Davis Hines had a base hit and drew two walks to lead Post 182 at the plate.
In Post 182’s second game, Pinson had a double, a single and an RBI, while Hines was the losing pitcher.
Leaders for the Post 30 Jr. team were Crisp County’s Landon Whitman (winning pitcher), Crisp County’s Chris McGinniss (2 singles, run) and Terrell Academy’s Dalton Dedge (double, single, 2 RBI, 2 runs).
Post 30’s senior team finished the tournament 2-2 and won both of its games Sunday — 10-7 against Vero Beach and 11-6 against Post 30 Jr.
Post 30 leaders on Sunday were Terrell Academy’s Kyle Stratton (2 triples, 3 singles, 2 RBI), Sherwood’s Brett Shepard (2 singles, 2 runs), Terrell Academy’s Josh Brunswick (double, single, RBI, 2 runs) and Lee County’s Chad Moore (double, single, 3 RBI, run).
Post 30’s winning pitchers Sunday were Stratton and Schley County’s Justin Barnes.
