Phillips No. 2 in digital song sales

Phillip Phillips’ “Home” sold 278,000 digital copies in its first week, more than any other coronation song in “American Idol” history.

The old record was held by David Cook’s “The Time Of My Life,” which sold 236,000 copies in its first week in 2008.

Tracked by Hot Digital Songs, “Home” is No. 2 on the overall list behind Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe,” which totalled 301,000 in digital sales.

The only song from an “American Idol” winner to sell more digital copies in one week than “Home” was Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” which had sales of 280,000 in 2009.

That song was not Clarkson’s coronation song, however. A coronation song is the song picked to celebrate the winner’s victory on the television show.

Meanwhile, Phillips’ surgery to repair a kidney stone problem has been delayed until next week, according to various media sources.

The Leesburg singer had nine songs on this past week’s 200-deep Hot Digital Songs chart.
