Festival and trail ride to benefit GraceWay

ALBANY -- From horseback tours to hay rides, petting zoos and silent auctions, the Kid's Fall Festival and Walden Farm Trail Ride is scheduled for Saturday.

The objectives are to generate some family fun and to raise money for GraceWay Recovery Residence for Women. According to Liz Dixon, executive director of GraceWay, the event is in its fourth year, and is expected to be popular once again.

According to Dixon, the Walden family farm in Lee County, where both events are scheduled, is the site of some of the most incredible natural beauty in the state.

"Where we'll have the trail riding has every type of topography in south Georgia," Dixon said, "There's one spot with 30 or 40 Live Oaks with hanging Spanish Moss. It even has actual rolling hills. One part borders Kinchafoonee Creek and follows it along."

Rides begin at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the riders' own horses and owners should bring proof of Negative Coggins. Trail riders pay $25 per rider with lunch included.

Dixon said the Kid's Fall Festival will be held on the other side of the farm from the trail rides and will include pony rides, hay rides, a jump castle and apple bobbing. Dixie said a petting zoo will feature a variety of child-friendly animals, including a donkey, pheasants, ducks and a miniature cow.

Merchants have been "very generous" in their donation of prizes for the silent auction, Dixon said. Prizes include a full and half-day hunting trips, tickets to Theater Albany productions and gift certificates from various area restaurants. The silent auction ends at 12:30 p.m.

There $15 admission per child for the Fall Fair, which includes all rides and games, a hot dog, drink and cookie. Individual lunches are available for $5. For directions and additional event information, visit Quail Crossing Stables on Facebook or call Lauren Watson, (229) 343-3714.
