ALBANY — In his college debut, former Colquitt County star Antwon Tuff scored 21 points and nailed five 3-pointers to lead the Albany Tech men’s basketball to an 82-68 season-opening victory against Brewton-Parker’s junior varsity team Thursday.
Nouhoum Boucoum added 13 points and five rebounds and former Bainbridge star Melzie Johnson had 10 points and three rebounds to help the Titans overcome a rough first half and pull away in the final 20 minutes after leading just 36-30 at halftime.
“We came out in the second half and pulled away and were more focused,” ATC coach Sylvester Patterson said. “I had a real nice talk with them at halftime.”
Former Dougherty star Arabian Williams only scored four points on 2-for-7 from the field, but the talented guard led the team in assists (6) and rebounds (7).
The Titans will play again today against Northwest Florida State, the second-ranked junior college team in the nation, in Niceville, Fla.
LADY TITANS 74, BREWTON-PARKER 36: Lashay Lettingham led the Albany Tech women with 13 points and five rebounds, and Shanice Williams chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds in the Lady Titans’ season opener Thursday.
Albany Tech built an early lead and never let up thanks to some stifling defense that held Brewton-Parker to just 16 points in the first half.
The Lady Titans travel to Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend for a pair of games — a matchup against Tallahassee Community College tonight and a game Saturday afternoon against Gadsden State Community College.
