I have seen them pull into a handicap space, put up gramps tag and then run into Walmart so no one suspects.
mnp317 6 months, 3 weeks ago
And stop using their store wheelchairs as toys. You can walk and those chairs have to be recharged for those who need them.

The greatest offenders are the blacks in Albany. It's no wonder that the majority of folks in Albany receiving government handouts, welfare, food stamps, and anything else they can get for free are black because obviously all are handicapped and can't work! What's even worse is that able bodied blacks will ride handicapped motorized buggies in Walmart and other grocery stores and think it's "funny". I've seen it first hand. Get off your lazy butt and shuffle yo feet around the stoe.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Why do you think that is? Maybe since black people are the majority in the city?
I am sick or the racism in this area. Personally I have seen just as many white people do this as black people.

Unfortunately I have been told the DP is issued to the vehicle, not the individual. Admittedly not what was intended, but what a poorly wrotten law produced. So legally there isn't something that can be done as long as the vehicle had the plate or placard. Also fraudulant placards are common. Plus there are folks that do not always display their disability outwardly. I know of one that got the DP due to heart problems, then got a transplant and still has the DP. Claims it is to limit his walking distance, yet I see them walking the neighborhood for required exercise. This program needs re-evaluation, and the law written to tie it to the specific individual. Then the fine needs to be doubled to increase revenue. About like the Super Speeder law. Plus, folks should be given a reward from crime stoppers for reporting violations, and Police should respond quickly. That will stop some of this stuff. One more thing, if the relative of a certain Police Lieutenant continues to park in handicapped spots, and the Issueing Officer continues to be told to pull the $700 ticket, I believe the Internal Investigations folks need to open their eyes. You probably know who it is, but if you don't the instances surely are documented somewhere in the system where the tickets were voided. The Thin Blue Line is going too far in creating a privilaged class.

This is a major pet peeve of mine. My husband is visually impaired and it is not safe for him to walk across a parking lot. Drivers see him and take it for granted he can see them. I have serious knee and ankle issues as well as breathing problems. I was at Walmart last weekend with my husband and big Cadillac Escolade pulled into the only available handicapped space. There was no tag or placard indicating handicap. The driver then got out and sprinted into the store. Too bad there is nothing we can do....
fcarroll 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree HP is for the handicapped, not for the lazy. People that park in these spaces should have their tag number turn in to the police dept and their violation reported.
Amazed2 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Yep see it all time people that look and walk perfectly healty with grama' s parking pass taking up the spacez needed by the real handi capped. Its a status thing to have a HP permit.
waltspecht 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Heck, I have seen the Handicapped person remain in the vehicle, while the healthy caretaker goes in the store. I don't believe that is quite right either.
stc1993 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Not all handicaps are visibly. I broke both my ankles & heels in a construction accident in 1994. To look at me you wouldn't think anything is wrong with me. Every step I take is painful it's like walking on sprained ankles all your life. So don't condemn people you don't know their story.
chinaberry25 6 months, 3 weeks ago
This not something I do, but another pet peeve of mine is folks who tie up traffic waiting for a person to back out. Lazy, lazy. If they go down two more stops and ten feet they can drive right in and traffic runs smoother.
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 6 months, 3 weeks ago
A little exercise doesn't hurt.
lmixon01 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Like Waltspect said, sometimes you can't always tell by outwardly appearances if a person is handicapped. Don't get me wrong, I agree with everybody that the ones that are healthy can get off their lazy booties and walk a few extra feet. But, I know I am guilty of "judging the book by the cover" when I see non-handicapped people using the handicapped spaces and sometimes I will catch myself and ask "When did you become their doctor? How do you KNOW they aren't handicapped?" The answer is I'm not, and I don't. It's not for me to judge. We all know the saying about Karma....and what goes around always comes back around.
FlunkyMonkey 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree with this to a point. When I see someone SPRINT (as in a moderate run) into a store from a handicapped space, I feel I have the right to wonder what the person's disability is. Especially when the car is not tagged or placarded for handicapped.
badcompany 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Cripple parking spaces should be only for crippled people. If you are not crippled then stay out of those parking spaces. You may be crippled one day and need those spaces.
Jabomanious 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I had a co-worker (who was completely healthy other than being overweight) use her deceased mother's handicap tag on her car for two years. I called the police department to report her and all they told me was that they couldn't do anything unless they caught her parking in the handicap spot. It totally sickened me.
Bulldawg 6 months, 3 weeks ago
These are the same lazy people that prop the new TP roll on top of the old one because they are too lazy to remove the old roll. I saw a policeman ticket a guy for parking in a handicapped space with no handicapped placard in his car. He was dumb enough to park right beside the police car with his car load of friends. Talk about a looser. Oh, the ticketing incident did not happen in Albany by the way.

Correct me if I am wronng here but--a license plate designated as "DP" (Disabled Person" is issued to the vehicle, not any person. But--a placard designating a Handicapped Person is issued to an individual (such as mine). The license plate CANNOT be transferred between vehicles but the placard can be as it should be with the person to whom it was issued. Note: "should be with the person to whom it was issued". This system does need to be examined and corrected as it is abused too often. I have reported to the Albany City Police, the Dougherty County Police, and the Lee County Police vehicles parked in Handicapped parking spaces with neither a "DP" license plate nor a "DP" placard only to be told that they are parked in a parking space for a private business and the business manager has to report this violation for the police to issue a citation. Another reason this system is so abused.
VSU 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I saw a police car last week parked in a handicap parking space. Now that is pathetic, but typical in Albany. Well maybe not typical in Albany, but rather this is Albany and it is not a surprise.
Jimboob 6 months, 3 weeks ago
If you have a Semper Fidelis sticker on your bumper you can park in handicap because that means "Brain Damaged"... Doesn't it? :-)
Bulldawg 6 months, 3 weeks ago
That was just wrong.
bubbavet 6 months, 3 weeks ago
No it means your momma made a bad mistake.
boog 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I thank God every time I walk by a HP space for the ability to physically walk across a parking lot and NOT needlessly abuse such a privilege.
alleebrin 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Did you see the Darton student drive into a handicapped parking space in a cadillac suv with a handicapped sticker? Have to go out of your way to beat that one!!!
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Does being obese constitute being disabled?
waltspecht 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately, it can now get you Social Security Disability. Just like getting hooked on Oxy-Codone or whatever. Either will get you a DP sticker or plate because they are a Government disability
Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Thanks! It really was a serious question. I wasn't just being a smart@$$.

Sherwood....believe it or not.....there is a BlueBook put out by the SS agency on the different ailments that quality for SSD. The URl is:
http://www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/AdultListings.htm
You may be surprised at some of the ones that qualify. Also there is a listing for COMPASSIONATE ALLOWENCE too, ie. ALS, etc.

To rightasrain and badcompany...how ignorant can you be? First, it's not majority black people who do this. All races do this!! And badcompany...has anyone told you that the correct term is handicap-able/handicapped, not crippled? I had a brother in law who had a placard on his car and would at times be able to walk into the stores with no problem. The reason? He had back problems and had back surgery. He could walk along fine and then without a word, his back would go out and his legs would get limp. That's why someone would have to go get a motorized cart for him. Unless you know everyone's situation, just learn to read and be quiet.

My sister is 100% handicapped (quite obvious looking at her and watching her struggle to walk) and a big old fat redneck once made the mistake of zipping in and taking a parking space from her at a K-mart in Dothan, Alabama. She struggled out of her truck, got her walker out and confronted him in the store about him swiping her parking space and asked him what his disability was that he was able to sprint from his truck so easily and go into the store. He gave her a smart a## reply in front of everyone and pushed her aside in true redneck form to show everyone he was superior so she bought a huge jar of Vaseline and went outside and smeared his windows all over....front, back, and his mirrors...struggled back into her vehicle and took off like a bat outta hell.
VSU 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Vasoline on the windows! When he saw that he was thinking..."What the...." I like that! That'll teach him. She should have stuck a big wad of bubblegum in his door handles as well. Greasy winders and sticky fingers.
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
If she can do that she is not disabled.
Cranky 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Fryer, are you the type person who points at a "little" person and says "hey look a dwarf." Ever hear of spina bifida? Is that a disability? Not everyone with spina bifida is unable to walk....some walk with back braces and leg braces.....get a life...you moron. If you see someone who is "slow" do you say "hey, you are such a retard"......I bet you do. Anyway, don't bother to respond...will be on the road...I am outta here..headed back to Virginia. Sandy has gone thru and time for me to go back home anyway. Have to go back and survey the damage. Was fun, enjoyed reading some of the posts.

Funny thing about Rednecks. They tend to be God Fearing and Respectful. At least the ones I associate with. Would probably have stood the Offenders truck on it's side if they saw it happen. Don't confuse your image with reality. She just met an inconsiderate lout that you or she chose to stick a label on.
kjd 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Handicap parking is just another liberal/government policy for brain dead folks. If you are truly handicapped then these spaces may are for you. However, if you can walk around inside Walmart for 2 hours what the hell is wrong with you. Most handicapped folks are only handicapped between the parking space and the front door. If one is handicapped then we should be able to see it so. IE; walker, wheelchair, crutches. And don't tell me your husband has an eye handicap and can not walk across a parking lot. If this is the case he needs a dog or someone to help him, to think he would try it on his own, absurd. Sighted folks take their life in their hands walking across a parking lot. I hope you do not let your husband try that on his own. Besides, why would someone with a sight problem require a handicap parking permit. I would think that someone that requires the extra room for a wheelchair lift or to maneuver a walker or the likes would be the only people that would actually require a special parking space.
