ATHENS, Ga. — Police say a newborn infant was stabbed to death in an Athens house, hours after being born.
Athens-Clarke police say the newborn's 21-year-old mother, Cassandra Elyse Norwood, has been charged with murder in connection with the baby's death Thursday afternoon.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Norwood was under guard at a hospital in the northeast Georgia city, where she was being treated for blood loss from giving birth. It wasn't clear early Friday whether she has an attorney.
Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said investigators determined the baby boy was born in the home where she lived with her parents and other family members in the Waverly Woods subdivision.
Police said Norwood was alone in one part of the house when she gave birth without anyone else knowing.

WOW, and there are so many people who want children. So sad that early in her pregnancy she did not decide to go through the adoption process. And now, a murderer. Too sad.

I agree. Obviously she needs mental help and from the sounds of it she's going to finally get that and much more. I despise anybody that could take the life of a helpless baby when there are so many people out there that would PAY to have that precious child, and it wouldn't cost the mother ANYTHING. Some people just amaze me...
