Squawk of the day - Nov. 6, 2012

"In 1974 George Busbee’s slogan against Lester Maddox was “Elect a workhorse not a showhorse.” Busbee won. Fast forward to the 2012 presidential race. I believe that Mitt Romney is the workhorse, and Barack Obama is the showhorse."

Obama isn't just a "show-horse"; he's the perfect incarnation of the Democratic Party's mascot...a Jackass.

Because I have a disabled husband, I need work done on my house. I want you to go to Lowes and buy the MOST EXPENSIVE flooring you can find. I also need some new ceiling fans installed so, while you are there, pick up five of those (must match). My dish washer broke so I want a Samsung stainless steel dishwasher. Oh yes, I also need a new shower because the knobs don't work any more On your way to my house stop by the grocery store since I am out of everything including meat, milk, eggs, butter. Oh yea, I also need a ham AND a turkey for Thanksgiving. You can use your hard earned money to pay for it because you have more than me and you HAVE TO SHARE.... When you get to my house, be prepared to move the furniture in my living room to take out the carpet (needs to be done before the new floor can be put in). After you finish in the living room, then you can move to the bathroom and replace the flooring in that room and fix the shower. While you are doing ALL THE HARD WORK in my house, I will sit on my ass and watch you because I DESERVE to have this work done. When ALL OF THIS IS DONE (and there are some things I have not mentioned) THEN AND ONLY Then and only then will I agree that President Jackass has a good plan and vote for him. When you go to the polls, remember, ASS, GAS OR GRASS, NO BODY IS ENTITLED TO A FREE RIDE!

VietVet1 1 year, 8 months ago

but he will give you a free phone

2

whattheheck 1 year, 8 months ago

Actually you are are the one giving out the free phones since the money to support them is from the Universal Service Fee you pay on your phones each month. This is a fact that no one talks about but a fact no less. .

3

chinaberry25 1 year, 8 months ago

Nope. Not me. If you have a prepaid cell, you only pay 75cents for 911. It may be in the flat rate fee, but I do not consider that more than a fee.

When you go to vote - remember we do not need to spend trillions of dollars in foreign aid, unnecessary wars, nation building among tribes, corrupt military industrial boondoggles, United Nations and foreign oil. Write in Ron Paul. If we run out of room at the celebration we'll be using subway a block north.

Say it one more time for me FlunkyMonkey i am a 64 yr old widow and i have never had anything handed to me, even as a poor child growing up. Before i close, where did Mitt get his money and i ask the same question about Obama. How many of us have ever had the amount of vacations as Michelle in the past 4 yrs. I applaud you FlunkyMonkey for making one of the truest statements made on this site.

3

chinaberry25 1 year, 8 months ago

If you would all watch Ga Public on Sunday afternoon they will explained where both got their money. Mitt worked for his after college. Nothing was given to him. Everything was given to Obama from his birth until today. Hence his attitude of give it to me. Along with his pot smoking and drugs.

What a loser, you show your ass up after the fact eh coach? You didn't have the balls to answer his challenge before, but suddenly you find Obama winning, now you decide to grow some and respond with a typical response. What a loser and coward you are.

0

chinaberry25 1 year, 8 months ago

The Bible tells you that you will always have to poor. They relish in it. They have it made, but that is coming to a screeching halt. Whoever wins, you will see the rich transferring their money abroad and as a result of this, you will be even poorer. As Clinton said, it trickles down. Rich money trickles down, creates jobs. Fact of life. It is like Maxine and the bird feeder. Birds will take over, stop feeding the birds and they will go away.

1

My husband and I are considered to be middle class citizens of this country. I can say with all honesty that the past 4 years have been very hard on us. President Obama has not done anything to help us except put us in the poor house. Obama has taken God out of this country and caused a huge decay of the morales on which our country was founded. The First Lady is a clown. She doesn't think about you when she vacations and takes the entire family several times a year. Wake up and realize the direction this country is going. A Muslim is not the answer. I will vote for Romney.

Why does it matter what Mitt Romney spends his on (the key word here is his money ) I don't care if he buys pink panties it his money. I care what Obama spends because it the taxpayers.

3

chinaberry25 1 year, 8 months ago

All his life it has been. His father abandoned his mother before he was born, who do you think paid for Obama's birth if he was even born in America? He was a scholarship student at a private prep school. He knew the ropes of getting freebies, his mother taught him well.

1

Bubbavet_rureel 1 year, 8 months ago

Yes, forget the past and repeat the future. A vote for Romney is a vote for the same old Bush policies, that my friend is why you are suffering, but there is help on the way, 4 yrs is a start, however, the other 4 will set you free.

Keep hope alive my friend. Stay left and open minded.

It saddens me to see the number of people in our area (and country) who truly remain UNINFORMED. There are positives and negatives about each candidate. I have had a hard time deciding because I have taken the time to research answers to my questions. For someone to ask where Mitt Romney got his money from while blasting Obama is mind blowing. It's sad that people want to constantly point out Michelle Obama's vacations, but didn't mind when our own president was spending A LOT of time on his ranch in Texas. Our country will spend YEARS trying to recover from the economic damage that was done during GW Bush's tenure as president. If people would stop, take a step back and think about what they really want from a candidate, then we might hear a different story here. But, instead people are so concerned about party lines that we have lost sight of what we want (and need) in a President. It is not about Republican, Democrat, Tea Party, Green Party...it's about America. We all need the WAKE UP and realize this!

1

chinaberry25 1 year, 8 months ago

You obviously are not as informed as you would have us believe. Go to the chart that tells you the amount of deficit left by each president. Clinton's was $4.97 trillion in 1996. Bush left $7 trillion. We won't even start on O's. It is there and easy to find. Bush spent very little and a lot was for the cleanup of those Arabs that Obama seems to love. You may enjoy paying $4 a gallon for gas but most don't. And I am not concerned about Bush, I know Mitt has cleaned up many messes and Obama's will be a challenge. Bush warned of the toxic mortgages by Freddie and Fannie and they ignored him. BTW, the mortgages were started under Clinton. Gotta give those poor folks a change.

1

VietVet1 1 year, 8 months ago

Don't forget Bush spent all of SSI reserve and his last year most of what was coming in. I've disliked his leadership & spending but Obama really went wasteful! Makes one wonder if it's too late so save our country.

0

ginny 1 year, 8 months ago

I agree...it's not about party but who's money our politicians are spending and how much they are spending and what they are spending it on. Just look at Pres Bush and how many (or few, relative to the O'bamas) he took. When you say he went to his ranch, IT WAS HIS RANCH! The O'bamas can't go home because the White House is their home. They do take a vacation at my expense more frequently than any other first family in history. Pres Bush would routinely cut firewood on his ranch while he was off. In contrast, The Obamas are using their 4 years to tour the world at our outrageous expense, often taking separate planes because the timing wasn't convenient. They have to have a huge entourage every time they go anywhere. We pay for all of this. It was a whole lot cheaper for W to cut firewood. Mitt and W both made their own money honestly and should be allowed to spend it how they wish. I am just thankful that a man with Mitt Romney's integrity and character has chosen to offer his service to us and undergo the scrutiny that only conservative candidates have to endure when he could have easily sat back and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. President Obama, on the other hand, has never provided a job for anyone that was not government related. Nearly all of his earnings have been taxpayer dollars. He will not tell us how in the world a poor black child who confesses to have been a dope smoking, class avoiding poor student with nearly no ambition got admitted to an ivy league college or better yet, paid for it. I understand daddy Bush paid W's college. Romney gave away his inheritance to charity and put himself through school and started his own business investments. Now please tell me how Obama got into Harvard - academically and financially - with such a lackluster start.

I have 3 favorite non-religious holidays;, 4th of July, Veterans Day, and First Tuesday in Nov every 4 years. No matter how much complaining and gutter-sniping go on, we have done something right if we are still able to cast votes for our leaders, challange polls, debate positions and cheer or cry with equal fervor when the election is over without anyone being wisked off to a gulag, visited by secret police or black-balled from society.

Bitch away, it's the Sound of Democracy!

As I was taught growing up. Honor Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day. For without the sacrafices made by the people those days represent, you wouldn't have everything else that you do have. Including your right to discent.

Alleebrin in his best and most focused mind thought as he wrote in the blog, "you can easily tell the people who write here are bozos." He was satisfied that his writing defined the circumstances perfectly for himself.

On this election day, I urge everyone to get out and vote. NO, I do not care who or what you vote for, only that you vote. Democracy works best when everyone is involved.

1

VSU 1 year, 8 months ago

The voice of reason. If you don't vote, don't complain because your choice didn't win.

0

Jax 1 year, 8 months ago

While I appreciate your sentiment B_F, I can't help but think of a democracy as two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner (lamb chops, anyone?). The ultimate flaw in a true democracy is that a majority of people can vote to discriminate against the minority. It is the ultimate form of mob rule.

Entitlement, give away, free housing, welfare for all the children that don't even know their daddy's and never been married, illegal immigations and these are voting and on and on, that is Obama. I sincerely hope that this country will return it's values back to God and get rid of a Muslim in the White House along with the what-ever that is called the First Lady and those brats.

My prayer is that after today, Obama and his bunch will be packing and hopefully get out of this great country of AMERICA.

2

outtabany 1 year, 8 months ago

When I awakened this morning, I felt a strong desire to pray. Not to participate in the foolishness. Your vote is your personal choice. Listen, everyone is not abusing the system. There are people who seriously need help. For those hiding behind their hateful comments, you will be exposed!! Our country is in the situation it's in because of hateful, selfish people like you. Honey, it’s going to take more than Obama or Romney to get us out this mess! This classism and racism has got to stop! Remember, God is on the throne.....

1

Jimboob 1 year, 8 months ago

All of you... Shut your pie holes and go vote. We will discuss this tomorrow. Some will be sad. Some will be glad. All will be confused and wonder what was everyone else thinking.

TrixibelleBento 1 year, 8 months ago

Something that I wish someone would start the train moving is getting rid of the electoral college. I can't believe in these days and times where everyone is fighting for equality that no one bothers to remind everyone that California's votes are worth more than Georgia's. It should be one person, one vote, but it's not. The electoral college is outdated and needs to be abolished. The popular vote should win, so the candidates aren't spending all their campaign dollars in those battleground states. I'm tired of hearing that Ohio is going to decide this election. It should be one voter who decides it!

2

VSU 1 year, 8 months ago

I agree, it almost makes our individual vote worthless. Maybe that is why some people don't bother voting. Every vote should mean something.

1

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 8 months ago

I guess the "glass half full" view would be that the candidates spend more on advertising in thoses swing states. Less commercials are okay with me.

0

FryarTuk 1 year, 8 months ago

Trix, I fully agree. I think (hope) we will see some serious discussion on this in the intermediate future.

*The Albany Herald should really be ashamed about being so openly biased against President Obama with their squawks...I mean, at least have some class when being one-sided. It's no wonder you all are in the shape you are in. *

1

J.D._Sumner 1 year, 8 months ago

Getserious, the squawks are printed from those that are left by our readers.

Every effort is made to ensure that when we have too many to print, that a representative sample is present from among those that are left. It's common knowledge that the squawk box is not presented as news, but rather as commentary from the readers of the Albany Herald.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

1

getserious 1 year, 8 months ago

Mr. Sumner, I am aware that the "squawks" are submitted by the readers, but it is ultimately decided upon by the staff there I'm sure. All I'm saying is, your news articles, squawks, opinions, are normally biased and that's not a great representation when you already have a bunch of hate and racial comments on the site that the Albany Herald chooses to allow people to post.
