ALBANY, Ga. -- An investigation is under way to determine what led to the death last week of 34-year-old Joey Daniels, an inmate in the Dougherty County Jail.
Reports from the Albany Police Department show that Daniels was arrested after 9 p.m. on Oct. 28 on multiple traffic charges and two warrants. After being booked in the jail, EMS was called in after it was noticed that Daniels was having a possible seizure.
A jail spokesman said that he was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he died about 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. Dougherty County Coroner Emma Quimbley said that the body was sent to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for evaluation.
She also said it is likely he ingested something, but that it will not be clear what he took or how much until the toxicology report comes back. There were no signs of trauma to his body, Quimbley said.
