DCPD: Officers collect food donations at Westover High

ALBANY, Ga. -- Officers from the Dougherty County Police Department plan to accept donations of canned and boxed food at Westover High School, 2601 Partridge Lane, at 2:30 p.m. today at a pep rally.

Food collected by officers and Westover High cheerleaders during the pep rally will go to the St. Clare Center soup kitchen, 2005 Martin Luther King Drive, to help those in need have a Thanksgiving dinner.

I love those nuns at St. Clare. But I am not going to give anything away without a social contract - if I give you help, you help yourself.

We are entering the time of year when we are inundated with tugs at the heart strings. Has anyone noticed that the more food drives we have, the more food drives we seem to need? And have you noticed those in the chow line look like they have had plenty of chow? With all the money for food passed out by the govt these days, I find it hard to believe that many people are going to bed hungry. Rather, it is like subsidized housing--the more you have, the more you need since supply creates demand with both.

I have noticed that as well. It seems the more food drives they have, the longer the lines become. It's just people out there getting greedy and wanting something for free even though they have cabinets filed with potato chips, canned goods, refrigerators filled with Chicken, pork, beef, and these same people look like they haven't missed a meal in 30 years.
