ALBANY, Ga. — The former owner of Ken’s Fast E-File tax preparation business in Albany was sentenced to a year in federal prison Wednesday, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Sentenced by federal court Judge W. Louis Sands, 48-year-old Kenneth Wayne Wright also has to pay $193,000 restitution to the U.S. Treasury, said Michael J. Moore, U.S. attorney.

In his plea bargain Wright admitted filing 44 false tax returns for 13 different tax payers during 2006-2008, Moore said. He added, “It is our hope that today’s sentence will send a strong message that tampering with the integrity of our nation’s tax system can result in jail time.”
