ALBANY -- Mr. Robert L. Davis, 74, of Albany died November 3, 2012 at Willson Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 214 East Oglethorpe Ave, Albany GA. Dr. John A. Severson will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Albany, GA, Mr. Davis was born September 8, 1938 to the late Fred and Cordia Davis. Rob, as he was affectionately called by many of his close friends and relatives, joined the Union Missionary Baptist Church in July 1955 under the leadership of the late Rev. Wilson M. Davis. He hit the floor running being active in all of the youth ministries (Jr. Mission, Baptist Training Union, Sunday School and the No. 2 Choir). Rob was one of the first advisors of the Gospel Choir. He later joined the No. 1 Choir, Mass Choir and the Program Committee. He was also affiliated with tie Men's Ministry. Rob was ordained as a Jr. Deacon during the late Rev. William Boyd's tenure and was elevated to a Senior Deacon some years later. Robert loved his church, his pastor and all the members of Union Baptist.
Although he became ill and was placed on dialysis, he did not let anything shake his faith in God. During the flood of 1994 and 1998, he volunteered with Union's Flood Distribution Project, sometimes leaving dialysis and going straight to the church to help. Even though he suffered many days and nights, he endured, being steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lore, forasmuch as he knew that his labor would not be in vain. For his acts of kindness, Robert received the Humanitarian Award from the Albany Chapter of the American Red Cross.
He attended the public schools in Dougherty County. Rob graduated from Monroe Senior High School in the year of 1558. He also worked in the community for many years as a Poll Official in the position of clerk for the Dougherty County Registrar Board of Elections. Rob loved people and this love was reciprocated by many. He was a joy to be around and will be sorely missed by all his friends, beloved church family and his energetic grandson, Ashton.
He leaves to cherish his legacy of love and memory, a loving daughter, Ericka Davis Hamilton; son-in-law, Eider Ovell Hamilton; grandson, Master Ashton 0. Hamilton, all of Douglasville, GA; a devoted ex-wife, Dora J. Davis, Albany, GA; three brothers, Fred Davis Jr. (Peggy), Albany, GA; Bobby Davis, Trenton, NJ; and Lucas Davis, Richmond, CA; one sister, Emily Harris, Albany, GA; a Godson, Devontae Brown, Albany, GA and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and members of Union Missionary Baptist Church,
