ALBANY, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Education, expressing concerns with the Dougherty County School System's implementation of Federal Title I, Part A programs, on Tuesday placed the district on "High Risk" status.
2. Mother accused of stabbing newborn child to death
ATHENS, Ga. — Police say a newborn infant was stabbed to death in an Athens house, hours after being born.
3. Former DCSS teacher jailed on sex charge
ALBANY, Ga. — Former Dougherty County teacher Phillip Burns, a 2012 Teacher of the Year finalist, has been charged with child molestation and felony sodomy. He was being held without bond Friday evening in the Dougherty County Jail.
