ALBANY — Westover grad Darrell Williams scored 63 points to lead the Albany Shockwave to a 131-85 victory against the Savannah Grizzlies in the franchise’s inaugural game Wednesday.
Williams, who hit 21 field goals and was 11-for-11 from the free throw line, also grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds.
“He is our go-to guy,” Shockwave coach Al Smith said about Williams. “He is our man. We are going to continue to work hard and feed off of him.”
Tallahassee, Fla., native Ledonshay Johnson added 22 points and eight rebounds, Charles Gennie, also from Tallahassee, scored 14 points and Trevor Eichelberger had 11 points.
“I’m real pleased with the win,” said Smith, whose team led 60-43 at halftime. “The guys are playing good. We are a new team, but we are jelling.”
The Shockwave play again today on the road against the Birmingham Blitz.
