Albany's Deion Branch had just nine catches for 80 yards this season when he was cut Saturday --- for the second time this year --- by the New England Patriots.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — For the second time this season, Deion Branch has been cut by the New England Patriots.
The Albany native and former Monroe star — who won the Super MVP with the Patriots in 2005 and was the third-leading receiver during New England’s Super Bowl run last year — was cut by the team Saturday just months after being re-signed. And that followed his first release by the Pats earlier this season.
Branch, 33, had tallied just nine catches for 80 yards and no touchdowns so far this season.
Branch will now be subject to waivers since the NFL’s trading deadline has passed. All 31 other teams will have a chance to claim him by 4 p.m. on Monday.
Branch, when reached Saturday, said he has spoken with several other teams but has not decided who he will sign with.
The Patriots, however, did not close the door on possibly bringing Branch back again this year.

He has loss more than one step. He can't get separation anymore. He probably can find another team in a limited role.
