Police respond to aggravated assault, armed robbery

ALBANY, Ga. -- An aggravated assault and armed robbery were among the incidents the Albany Police Department responded to over the weekend, reports show.

The aggravated assault was reported to have taken place at 501 Bobbitt Drive, Apt. A, at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, where police said that a silver Mercury Sable was on the scene with all of its windows shot out.

The adult victims -- identified as Candice Harris, 22, and Willie Powell, 23 -- were with three juveniles aged 4-14 were inside of the residence while some unknown person or persons fired several shots from a handgun and a rifle at their car and house, according to the account they gave to police.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. It was not immediately known what the motive behind the attack might have been, but the investigation into the shooting remains active, police said.

Earlier in the weekend, there was an armed robbery reported at 505 N. Central St. sometime between 2:30 a.m.-3:10 a.m. on Saturday, reports show.

L.C. Phillips, 49, reported to police that an unknown male knocked on his door saying that he wanted a cigarette. Phillips further stated that he let the suspect inside and give him a cigarette when the suspect pulled out a handgun and robbed him of cash and two bottles of liquor, police said.
