Thank the Lawyers and Liberal Interpretations of law for that. The high court costs and legal fees make all entities try to avoid what is right by buying out people before they sue.

Look at the Walmart workers who want to strike and not work. Fire them all and get rid of them. It is an employer market now. You cannot have it both ways. You blame Mitt Romney for moving jobs overseas when it is really the type of climate in the USA today. I do not blame them at all. I would move too. If you have enough money, there are too many places to live that you do not have to put up with the crap going on in the USA today.

The truth is WalMart brought China to mainstreet USA. That chain of stores has ruined consumerism, small businesses, communities and product quality in the USA if not the free world. The Walton family is a nothing short of a bed of financial leaches. I personally hope that unions strike and close every damned W store in the country. It would be of unimaginable value to businesses, consumers and labor in this country.

I would love to know how many businesses Wally World has driven out with their business practices. Small businesses to large have all been negatively effected by this company.

Walmart is not union, that's what they've been fighting. They hire workers & keep them below the No. of hrs. required to be eligible for benefits. Google it they have articles about how bad they treat their employees. A lot of them are even eligible for foodstamps if they have 2 dependants.

Chinnaberry: So you have no symphathy for workers that have to come in hours early on a holiday, just because Wal-Mart decided they were extending Black Friday? The workers probably get minimum wage and are not allowed 40 hours ( to keep from receiving health benefits), and you think that they should give up holidays just so a BILLION DOLLAR company can increase their bottom line? The Waltons disgust me and are a representation of greed to the fullest. The heirs of the Wal-Mart fortune are billionaires, but could care less about the people that help them live a luxurious life! Your words and lack of compassion for people is just disgusting, but not suprising!!

AMEN, BRO!! I sho do agree with dat! But what about those of us who are not financially able to move?

0

fcarroll 1 year, 8 months ago

I am one that the harder i worked, the more i gave to the company the less i was thought of and more work load was added to my already full load. So whom ever entered the squak could not have said it better.

4

RedEric 1 year, 8 months ago

Amen fcarroll. The more you can do in your job the less likely you will be promoted. Your boss may not be able to replace you with one person so cannot lose you at that position. If you want to be promoted; kiss butt, smooze , play golf, dress well, play the sex card (if applicable), but do not become irreplaceable.

When I used to do construction work yrs ago they had a saying; **** up & move up. Still true today.

0

bigbob 1 year, 8 months ago

The thing that happens all the time that gets me is a company will hire an outsider instead of promoting from within then have you train the outsider to be your boss. Happens all the time. Oh ya & pay the newbe twice as much as you who had to train them.

It happened with that women at the Chamber of Commerence, $100 & something thousand a year (plus they fired Lisa Riddle a very good employee that let it be known that they were taking money from her budget at the visitor, convention bureau to pay this woman) and she jumped ship & went to work for the chemical co. first chance she got.

You guys sound like a bunch of slugs. Clean yourselves up, shave, comb your hair, shine your shoes. Keep people coming through the door. Albany has the worst customer service representatives I have ever seen. Some of you nabobs learn how to be courteous, speak and smile you might earn a raise or two. Our little family owned enterprise gives annual MERIT raises. We've given two employees nice cars. They get 2 week paid vacation, 5 days of sick leave, 6 paid holidays, partial pay health insurance, overtime over 40 hours. Show up to work and do a good job you get to keep your job and get paid. Best deal in the world. This area has the sorriest work force this side of Haiti. Truth be known, that's what cost the area the large companies that moved out.

1

Outtahere 1 year, 8 months ago

FryarTuk, You sound like a very nice person and the merit raises you mentioned are sadly, few and far between. However, customer service is "my thing" - I am wonderful at it and I take pride is treating people well, but it never did me any good in Albany. I have to agree that Albany's customer service is non-existent.

I believe the comment was made about the soon to be former superintendent of DCSS. It's a shame that money that could be used to benefit the children will be used to correct a mistake made by the school board. Let us hope a lesson is learned?

FryarTuk 1 year, 8 months ago

I think you meant this for another blog. But it's true and, Brother Westside, I agree with you.

The remaining Walton children are numbers 4-7 inclusive on the top 10 richest Americans list. 41$ million is spent in a W-M every hour. The majority of W-M's are not in the US. If W-M were a country, it would be China's 8th largest trading partner.

Because the minimum wage in GA is $2 less than the federal requirement (there are some rules and regs about who and why), a 'full time' worker will make far less than the federal poverty level for a family of 4. That level is 22K; FT at W-M at the federal minimum of 7.25$ hourly = 14K. At GA wages, it's less than 10K.

Some people retain their job even after being caught wearing a towel, lying about the scene, and being arrested!

USG faculty have not had a raise in 5 years but the class sizes just keep getting bigger and the students less and less prepared for college. Most students should not have graduated high school.

I am very flattered in that it appears that people are scanning my comments that I make from day to day in the Herald Online and sending them in for Squawks. This is quite flattering to me but unfortunately I do not receive the credit due to me. For example, in the Newspaper Squawks today, the comment about the Herald Sports Editor. I made those comments last Friday (and repeated on Saturday and Sunday). But I am glad and thankful that my comments are so well received. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone without regard to race, creed, religion, or national origin.

have another sip sister.. surely you won't fall out of your wheelchair on the way to your mailbox to collect your government check...

I don't get a government check. Nor a state check nor a city check. I get what I worked for and saved for. As should everybody.

Let me see where you are going with this squawker...Obama maybe? Get over it.

0

sad_for_albany 1 year, 8 months ago

Perhaps if everyone just stayed home on Thanksgiving all this madness would stop. Walmart isn't the only one working on Thursday. If you look, Walmart is being attacked because the Unions want Wal-Marts 1.4 million workers. The unions don't care about the workers either. They just want that dues money in their pockets. This isn't about working. Never was. This is about unionizing Walmarts workers.

1

Sister_Ruby 1 year, 8 months ago

sad_for_albany.....YOU"VE got the answer. JUST SAY NO!! We've lost the meaning of all the Holidays (roots are "Holy Days") through rampant commercialism, greed, and materialism.

1

VSU 1 year, 8 months ago

Absolutely sister, it's no longer about the season, nowadays the money is the reason. I don't do any shopping on Black Friday. I am not camping outside at night to be the first in line at a company sale. I do my shopping at my convenience.

1

alleebrin 1 year, 8 months ago

And just suppose Wal-Mart takes its retail business out of the country? Wonder if all these disgruntled, lazy-ass workers have thought about that?

0

stc1993 1 year, 8 months ago

It would be a good thing to take their business out of our country. It wouldn't hurt me one bit. It would help our local businesses.

0

FryarTuk 1 year, 8 months ago

It would be absolute wonderful to see Walmart fold its tent and go back to China. What a great day for America that would be. You don't stick around at WMart if your a lazy ass.

This is about the most truthful squawk in a long time. Companies are so afraid of being sued, you do wrong and then turn around and sue for your job, it is wrong. I agree too with Sad_for_Albany, if NO ONE went shopping to Walmart, Sears, Target or Toys R Us, that are going to open on Thanksgiving, then maybe these places would respect their employees. Heck Sears opens on Easter Sunday...They were the only store in the Mall open and maybe two dozen people shopped all day, you would think they would realize it cost more to open than they made but these places are so dang money hungry that it is sad. I look at striking from this stand point, let them strike as there are plenty of people who will work in your place that have been unable to find jobs.

0

stc1993 1 year, 8 months ago

I don't shop at Sears anymore either, 30 yrs ago they were my favorite store for batteries, tires & minor vehicle maintainence.

I miss badly the old ma and pop stores. They spoke politely, gave the best customer service and many knew you by name. I purposely go to one of the few "service stations" left in Albany to have my oil changed and to get gas and other automotive needs taken care of. Every time I go I thank them and tell them how much I appreciate them for staying in business against all odds. I would imagine one big reason the customer service at W-M is so bad is because we as a people have gotten so use to buying things at such a low price we go and will continue to go no matter how bad they treat us just because we are cheap. Nothing means what it used to, holidays, respect of each other and even of ourselves. It is so sad what our country has become and it's no ones fault but our own.

My my, how interesting. I come along and read and what do I see but some interesting statements by none other than Ruby..hahaha...my old endemic memory had been getting kind of rusty but it opened pretty fast when I began to read her posts....let me refresh your memory. Here is your exchange Ruby, with TRUTH when the question came up about programs at ASU being rated best in the nation. Remember your household income then.. and the souce of income? I still see you don't get a government check but wait.....do I see yet another post by Ruby.......yes I think I do...

WHAT?? So now you have $1300 a month you live on...what is it ... a SS check or part of the $75 you make you give yourself as an allowence? It seems to me you have an obsession with money, not your money but other people's money.

Maybe tommy was right, maybe you do need to get off the sauce or stop being so jealous...you do seem to snipe a lot about what people drive. Everyone knows what crooks those people are and if you are as religious as you say you are don't you believe they will one day have to answer for their wrong doing?

I have what is called an endemic memory and I have been reading posts lately and saw another one today by Ruby and remembered she has twice before brought up money and the source of income...pooh!! She can't seem to remember where it comes from so I went back and found it for her so just in case she sees this, here are 2 of your sources. Might I make a suggestion...3 x 5 cards.. a friend of mine told me she uses them to keep up with her lies, it is easier that way. She said she knows that if she told the truth it would be unnecessary but it is so nice to create a character so the 3 x 5 card are so handy. TRUTH might remember the exchange?
