ALBANY, Ga. -- North Georgia College & State University student Cadet Master Sergeant Weston Lee of brigade staff has been awarded the 2012 Major Kitefre K. Oboho Military Leadership Scholarship.
Lee is the son of Eddie and Aldene Lee of Bluffton. He is majoring in criminal justice and is scheduled to graduate and commission in December 2014.
Lee is a member of the Combat Shooting Team at North Georgia. Weston has been the winner of the "Command Sergeant Major's Team Match" for two consecutive years as well as the winner of the "2012 Commanding General's Pistol Match," all at Fort Benning. Weston was also selected as the first sergeant of Foxtrot Company for this academic year.
The $1,200 scholarship is presented to the military cadet who best demonstrates leadership ability, service to the nation, state, and community and desire to excel in all areas of military and academic endeavors. The scholarship is sponsored by Major Oboho and is to honor and recognize a cadet who works hard, demonstrates professionalism and is dedicated to North Georgia's Corps of Cadets.
Oboho is a 2002 Distinguished Military Graduate of North Georgia College & State University, and a well-decorated combat veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He is currently assigned to the U.S. Army 2nd Ranger Battalion, Fort Lewis, Wash.
Founded in 1873 and located in Dahlonega, Ga., North Georgia College & State University is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state and currently has about 6,400 students.
