ALBANY -- John Champion Meadors of Albany died Tuesday, October 24, 2012 at Lillian Carter Health and Rehabilitation in Plains. His remains have been cremated and will be buried in Crown Hill Cemetery 2:00 PM on November 29, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Freeman Drury and his parents, James and Katherine Champion Meadors.
Survivors include a brother, James Meadors and his wife Ellen of Lincoln, Massachusetts, a sister, Katherine Ahouse and her husband Frank of Albany and his mother in law, Patricia Fore of Albany. He also leaves behind his four beloved dogs, whose companionship he had shared with his wife before her death.
Born and raised in Albany, Mr. Meadors worked as a truck driver for UPS and other companies and in recent years had his own lawn and landscape business. He was passionately interested in sports, both actively as an avid motocross rider and as a fan of Florida State football. Every year he attended all the Florida State home games, first with his wife and later with his parents-in-law. Those who knew him will miss his cheerfulness, his intelligence, and his sense of humor.
His survivors wish to express their gratitude to the staffs of Phoebe Putney Hospital, Albany Community Hospice and the Willson Hospice House, and Lillian Carter Health and Rehabilitation for their great kindness and for the excellent care they provided him.
