ALBANY -- Mrs. Lucy B. Strawder, 77, of Albany died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God, 3250 Sylvester Road. Interment will follow in the Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery, 120 Old Pretoria Road. The family will receive friends at 1226 Gaissert Road.
Lucy Bell Crumb Stawder was born December 25, 1934 to the parentage of the late John G. Crumb and Lucy Kate McLendon Crumb in Calhoun County, Georgia. She received her education in the public schools of Calhoun and Randolph counties.
At an early age Lucy confessed Jesus as her savior, was baptized and joined Jacob Chapel Freewill Baptist Church (Morgan, Ga.), under the pastorage of Rev. Burns. After relocating to Albany, she connected with the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.N. Elzia, Jr. In 1989, when Pastor Elzia was led to organize Pines Chapel Baptist Church, she became one of the charter members. She later became affiliated with Victory Tabernacle Assembly of God under the pastorage of Pastor Eddie Adams, where she remained faithful until she was challenged by her health and remained a member until her demise.
In 1955, Lucy met and married the late Mr. David Stinson, Sr. To this union two children were born. In 1960, she was joined in Holy matrimony to the late Mr. Matthew Strawder, Sr. To this union five children were born. Being a resourceful woman of great wisdom, she successfully trained her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Lucy was preceded in death by four sons: Pastor David Stinson, Jr., Mr. Eddie Jean Stinson, Mr. Matthew Strawder Jr. and Mr. James Edward Strawder.
She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate in a rich heritage four children, Pastor Rickey L. Strawder (Sandy), Minister Frances R. Beeks (Albert), Mrs. Queen E. Thomas (Kenneth), and Pastor Cecil Strawder (Charlotte); daughter-in-laws, Carolyn Alexander Stinson, Caroline Riley Stinson, Rutha Davis Strawder and Willie Mae Franklin Strawder; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Davis of Albany, Ga., Ms. Cornelius Crumb of Edison, Ga. and Mrs. Mary Cook of Aliquippa, Pa.; five step daughters, Mrs. Myralean Boone, Mrs. Lillie McIntyre, Mrs. Ruth Ford (Kenneth), Mrs. Maxine Williams and Mrs. Edna Harris (Isaac); 21 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, 12 step grand children, a host of step great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
