The Sherwood Christian girls basketball team improved to 4-1 early in the season Friday night thanks to a 38-21 win against Central Fellowship Christian Academy, which is hosting an annual tip-off tournament.
Madison Walker was the only SCA player in double figures with 16 points.
The Lady Eagles, whose only loss came to Highland Christian in the Byne tip-off tourney, now advances to the championship today at 1 p.m. against Macon Area.
RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP MILLER COUNTY: Kenekia Washington scored a game-high 26 points and the Lady Red Devils routed the Lady Pirates, 86-19, on Friday. Randolph-Clay improved to 3-1 with its only loss coming to unbeaten Monroe. Miller, which was led by Mallory Diamond, dropped to 0-2.
The Randolph-Clay boys, meanwhile, defeated the Miller boys, 70-52, as four Red Devils scored in double figures: Gary McCrae (17 points), Corey Brown (12), Ryan Wiggins (11) and Cornelius Bennett (10).
Miller (0-2) remained winless on the season after getting just two days of practice in with the full roster of players since the Pirates’ football season just ended last Friday.
Randolph-Clay’s boys and girls will face off against rival Mitchell County in Camilla tonight, while Miller hosts Terrell County.
MONROE BOYS 51, AMERICUS-SUMTER 45: The Tornadoes improved to 4-0 behind 13 points from Cortez Banks and 12 from Jabari McGhee, while the Panthers were led by Michael Russell’s nine. Monroe next plays at Albany High on Tuesday after its game against Valdosta tonight was canceled but will be rescheduled. Americus (0-2) next plays at Westover on Tuesday.
MONROE GIRLS EDGE AMERICUS, STAY UNBEATEN: The Lady Tornadoes improved to 5-0 on Friday with a 61-50 win at Americus-Sumter behind 15 points from Key-Key Price and 14 from Davone Anduze. Monroe next plays at Albany High on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers (0-2) had three players in double figures: Kayle Bowens (14 points), Tannyelle Hill (13) and Kahler Fletcher (13). Americus will got for its win at Westover on Tuesday.
