Banners require permits and $30 according to code enforcement

ALBANY, Ga. — Despite an Albany businessman’s claims that he erected banners at his business location to encourage citizens to vote in November, the Albany-Dougherty Code Enforcement office says he must pay for the privilege.
Richard Thomas, president of Corporate & Estate Analysts at 1930 Dawson Road, hung banners with pictures of two heavily armed Navy SEALs standing next to the phrase “The seals removed one threat to America, remove the other in November.”
“We don’t care about the content of the banners,” Chief Code Enforcement Officer Robert Carter said Wednesday. “The ordinance says that banners need a permit.”
It will cost Thomas $30 each to keep his banners up, Carter said. Solid wood or plastic signs do not require the permit, but banners do.
