RICHLAND -- On Sunday, September 30, 2012, Mrs. Alma Louise Crawford transitioned from her earthly home in Albany, Georgia to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Crawford was born on August 7, 1913 in Benevolence, Georgia - Randolph County, to the late Marry Lee and Susie Knighton Lee. She grew up in Lumpkin, Georgia and moved to Albany, Georgia in 2001 to be near her children.
Mrs. Crawford matriculated at Albany State College earning a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and Columbus College earning a Master's degree in Special Education. She taught in the Stewart County Public Schools for 44 years and was extremely passionate about the well-being of children.
Mrs. Crawford was an active member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Georgia Retired Educators Association (GREA) in Stewart, Dougherty, and Randolph/Quitman, Civican Social Club, Starlight Chapter No. 218 Order of Eastern Stars, and The Cut-All Quilting Club. She participated in the Stewart County Improvement Organization, Stewart County Professional Club, and was Past President for the County Wide Mission for Stewart and Quitman counties. She was also an avid supporter of Samaritan Clinic.
She leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters; Shirley C. Roberts (Jimmy) of Albany, GA and Barbara C. Fortson (George, deceased) of Albany, GA; four grandchildren: Pernerdia L. Rivers (Carlton) of Aurora, CO, Michael O. Johnson of Albany, GA, Kesal P. Fortson (Nedra) of Albany, GA, and Kerwin P. Fortson (Mischelle) of St. Louis, MO; seven great-grandchildren: Autanzia Johnson, Jasmen Rivers, TonJia MacCory, Jemuir Rivers, Aaliyah Fortson, Kole Fortson, and Korey Fortson; one step-son: Andrew Crawford (Mary) of Vaux Hall, NJ and their children: Anthony, Andre, and Adaryer; five great-great-grandchildren; three siblings: Solomon Brown (Ezepher) of Columbus, GA, Susie Mae Brown of Bronx, NY, and Viola Hudson of Atlanta, GA. Eight siblings preceded her in death: Larvargie Lee, Harry Lee, Walter Cad Lee, Jerry Brown, Milburn Brown, Salley Brown Bussey, Geraldine Buck, and Mamie Ophelia Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Lumpkin, Georgia. The burial will follow at Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lumpkin, Georgia.
Family visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 6:00 PM.
