OPELIKA, AL -- Johnny Earl Huggins, 65, of Auburn, AL, died Friday, October 5, 2012, at East Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born September 28, 1947, in Ocilla, GA, to the late Harrison Kemp and Elizabeth Horne Huggins. Johnny married Harriette Mitchell December 19, 1970 in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Auburn University in 1970 with a degree in Aviation Management. At the time of his death he was working for GKN Westland Aerospace at their Tallassee, AL, facility.
A lifelong Presbyterian, Johnny was an elder and member of the Session at First Presbyterian Church, Auburn, AL. He was a former assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, an enthusiastic collector of family history, and an avid fan of automobile and motorcycle racing.
He is survived by: wife, Harriette Mitchell Huggins, Auburn, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Piet and Shannon Huggins, Opelika, AL; daughter, Jana Huggins Haire, Alexander City, AL; four grandchildren, Lorren Nicole Huggins, Breana Denise Huggins, Gavin Alexander Haire, Vance Nicholas Patterson; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Harrison and Pauline Huggins, Albany, GA; sister, Elizabeth Ann Wiehrs, Albany, GA; step-brother and wife, Stan and Marcia Cumbie, Sasser, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 143 E. Thach Ave., Auburn, Tuesday, October 9 at 4 pm. The Rev. Dr. Frank Covington presiding. Reception to follow.
