Lee County’s Tavarious Hall (24) fights through a Hardaway tackler on Friday. Hall and the Trojans beat Hardaway, 36-21, to stay unbeaten.

Fab 5 Poll

1. Lee County.......(6-0)

The Trojans make the move to No. 1 after rushing for 501 yards in a 36-14 Region 1-AAAAA win against Hardaway and now have a bye week before playing TCC.

Next: vs. TCC, 7:30 p.m., Oct. 19.

2. Bainbridge.......(3-2)

The Bearcats slip from No. 1 after an overtime loss to TCC, and the showdown between Lee and Bainbridge on the final night of the season looks bigger and bigger.

Next: at Harris County, 7:30 p.m., Friday.

3. Americus .........(4-1)

The Panthers, like everyone else in Region 1-AAAA, had a bye week but face one of the biggest games of the year when former No. 1 Monroe comes to Americus on Friday.

Next: vs. Monroe, 7:30 p.m., Friday.

4. Early County...(4-2)

The Bobcats bounced back from losing to Brooks, the No. 2 AA team in Georgia, and crushed Berrien, 43-19, last week.

Next: vs. Thomasville, 8 p.m., Friday.

5. Westover...........(2-3)

The Patriots had a bye week to recover from a 31-7 loss to Cairo, and play three of their next four games on the road.

Next: at Crisp County, 8 p.m., Friday.

ALBANY — They’re ranked in the Top 10 in at least one Class AAAAA poll and getting votes in another. They have one of the most potent offenses in all of Georgia and are off to the best start in school history.

And now Lee County is back in the top spot in The Herald Fab 5 Poll. The Trojans had sat at No. 2 for awhile as the only undefeated team in the poll. But No. 1 Bainbridge, which had not lost to a team in Georgia, dropped a heartbreaker, falling 17-14, to state-ranked and rival Thomas County Central last week.

The combination of Lee County’s perfect season and Bainbridge losing its second game — albeit to a state power — was enough to catapult the Trojans to No. 1. Lee County’s 6-0 start is the best in school history, and the Trojans rushed for an almost unheard of 501 yards in their 36-21 win against Hardaway in the region opener.

Lee County, which was No. 1 in the Fab 5 Poll for almost the entire season two years ago, is led by Dynamite Dozen tailback Kenneth Hurley, who has rushed for 1,024 yards in just six games and is coming off a 242-yard night against Hardaway.

No. 3 Americus-Sumter stays there after a bye week. The Panthers, who have won three in a row and are 2-0 in Region 1-AAAA, face a big test Friday night when Monroe, which had been the No. 1 team in the Fab 5 until Westover beat the Tornadoes, 17-14, in the region opener two weeks ago, can climb right back into the title hunt in the region with a win, because Westover lost to Cairo and is 1-1 in the region.

The Panthers can make a bold statement with a victory against Monroe.

Early County, which plays in one of the most competitive regions in the state and the toughest in Class AA, bounced back from a loss to Brooks County, which is ranked No. 2 in the state Class AA poll, and took it out on Berrien in a 43-19 win. The Bobcats stay at No. 4 and stay in the hunt for the playoffs in Region 1-AA. They face Thomasville at home on Friday.

Westover stays at No. 5 after a bye week and travels to Crisp County for an 8 p.m. start on Friday. Crisp is coming off a 28-8 win against Dougherty.

Again this year, same thing a little different. Halfway through the season and a 2-3 team is in the Top 5. Ridiculous last year, ridiculous this year. Couldn't we have a category that was "Least Sucky DoCo Public School"?? That would be Westover right now and I could agree with that. PS. Monroe started at what position??

I have to agree with you sister.... Also might I add that i dont believe that Lee Co. has played a team with a record above .500 yet , their region play will tell the story!! That being said 6-0 is a great start... One more prediction, my team hasnt lost to an Albany school in 2 years and wont lose to an Albany school this year!! Go Americus- Sumter
