ALBANY — Breaking the mold, Albany Police Department Mack Green retired after more than 30 years of service in Albany.

Unlike many high-ranking officers who retire after serving with various law enforcement agencies, Green calls Albany home and he stayed here his entire career.

“It feels great to retire after 30 years. Not many retire from their home department as a captain,” Green said. “I am very glad I had such a long length of service to the citizens of Albany.”

Green plans to go fishing. He said it will be a new experience for him. He is a veteran officer who has spent most of his time serving with SWAT and the Gang Unit.

At a retirement celebration Friday, Green was honored by Police Chief John Proctor, Mayor Dorothy Hubbard and City Manager James Taylor among others. He was presented with a starter kit fishing rod and reel.

“I am going fishing, and we are staying here in Albany,” Green said. “It is home and I can finally spend more time with my family.”

As a youth coach for baseball and football and a deacon at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Green will also continue his involvement with the community.

OK, just what is his arrest to conviction ratio? What, as an Officer of the Law has he done to make the average Citizens life safer and more secure? Now that is what should be discussed to honor an individual, showing what they accomplished for the good of man over the years they served. No, not the extra carricula activity, but doing what they were being paid to do. I imagine making Captain here from the ranks, his figures should be impressive.

Mack Green had a good career until he threw a party and invited Willie Weaver and served him one too many beers. The rest is history.
