About 500 early ballots cast

ALBANY, Ga. — Voting is under way.

When elections officials opened voting Monday morning for the November General Election, there was a line of people waiting to cast their ballots.

By the time the doors closed on the first day of early voting, more than 515 people had voted, or nearly 1 percent of the total registered electorate of Dougherty County.

In Georgia, the early voting period began at 8:30 a.m. Monday, giving voters an early opportunity to weigh in on the presidential election and, in Dougherty County, at least two contested races.

The early voting period will continue through Nov. 2 and includes Saturday, Oct. 27. On that Saturday, voters can cast ballots between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

To vote early, voters must bring photo identification to the Government Center at 222 Pine Ave. between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday during the early voting period.

There will be no early voting on Monday, Nov. 5, and all precincts will open on Tuesday, Nov. 6, for regular voting.

Elections officials will also open a second location downtown for voting next week. Beginning Oct. 22, elections officials will use the Candy Room, which is adjacent to the Albany Herald parking lot on Pine Avenue, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alot of people in Albany can do early voting because they don't work anyway. Set home & wait for your free bees in the mail, how proud you must be.

Those free bees will come to a screechin halt after the election. It is getting better and better. Just wait til those records are unsealed. Some already are.

You have to start voting early depending on how many different ID's you have. Most people in Albany need two or three ID's in order to get by. It's a tough old world out there.

Maybe if everyone was giving a fair chance to have a job and businesses in Albany would stop discriminating then maybe no one would have to sit home and wait for "free bees".

Hogwash, most of these people choose this way of life. they would not work if 200,000 jobs were created in Albany. Why work when I can sit at home and get mo from da guvment? Others would rather steal and rob than to get a job.

VSU u have no idea what you are talking about why don't you do some research of the people across America that sit at home and wait for the mail man to run. I'm pretty sure if you went to a college that is in Georgia you waited for the loan check or the financial aid check to drop, and if you didn't then somewhere someone in your family did, and if not your family then someone you know has. That is a government hand out and it also comes from the mailman there is no difference, free is free no matter what form of payment it comes in.
