DUBLIN, GA -- Services for Herbert Eugene "Gene" Tomlinson, age 91, of Dublin, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 19, 2012 in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Darvin Talley, Mr. Zenus Thomas, and Mr. Ted Jarriel will officiate. Mr. Tomlinson died Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
Mr. Tomlinson was the son of the late Woody Tomlinson and the late, Laura Harden Tomlinson. He was an Army WWII rifleman, serving in the battles and campaigns of New Guinea, Philippines and occupied Japan. Mr. Tomlinson received numerous decorations and citations including Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Tomlinson retired from the Carl Vinson Medical Center. He was a charter member of the Dublin Gideons, a volunteer for the Salvation Army, a former Post Commander of the American Legion, and a member of NARF. Mr. Tomlinson had a strong faith in Christ which he lived and shared with others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Fountain Tomlinson, and brothers, Curtis Tomlinson and Milo Tomlinson.
Survivors include his daughter, Margene (Jeff) Neal of Albany; grandchildren, Justin Neal, of Sandy Springs, Laura (Kevin) Whaley, of Albany; brother, Russell (Frances) Tomlinson, of Gray; nieces and nephews, Joyce Raffield, Ginger Starkey, Larry Tomlinson, Linda Askew, Kenny Tomlinson, Anthony Tomlinson, Kathy Beck. Caregivers were Vanessa Guyton, Gussie O'Neal, and Leslie Coney.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
