Squawk of the day - Oct. 18, 2012

"Mayor, why does your city sell cheaper gas, almost 10 cent cheaper, on the east side than the west side? Even the gas stations from the same company don't sell at the same price? Who is gouging who?"

More GIMMEOBAMA on the west side ???????????

AuntieDee 1 year, 6 months ago

Gas is higher on the west side because most of the Romney Rats live over there. They are stupid enough to think more is better.

This coming from an Obamarat where most of Albany's uneducated people live. The west towners are where most of your tax base comes from to pay for your welfare checks every month. The west towners are the ones keeping this city alive for what's left of it.

You, Sally O, are a sanctimonious sack of __. I an part of the East Side Trailer Park Trash. The west towners have those pay checks because they TRAVEL TO EAST ALBANY TO WORK AT MILLERS AND PROCTOR & GAMBLE. It it s EAST ALBANY MILLS AND FACTORIES THAT KEEP THE WEST SIDE GOING!! ONE MORE THING--I AM VOTING FOR ROMNEY!

And don't forget the marine base. If Millers, P&G and the marine base left Albany...what a mess that would be.

FlunkyMonkey 1 year, 6 months ago

AMEN!! Forgot the marine base---

I was talking to twidledee and twidledum when I made my comment, but you are correct, the honey boo boo people contribute to society as well.

Really, Sally_O? How about the fact that the gas stations on the east side are located right off of the interstate? It has always been that way. Generativity, Sally_O and others with that foolishness! Look it up! This comes from an educated, Black Christian, who has lived on both sides of this city.

Get BETTER and show people BETTER. Stop being BITTER. There are people that are truly in need. Stop putting your poison online. Get off of the computer and show this generation work ethic if that is truly your concern.

Rents are higher, the bypass favors larger sales volume on the East side, more competition for the available business on the East side. Basic business sense.

2

Shinedownfan 1 year, 6 months ago

That's simple, the east side is closer to the interstate. We all know this is their reasoning when gas is cheaper in Tifton and Cordele.

3

chinaberry25 1 year, 6 months ago

Actually, if you live in East Albany, your value of real estate is lower than the west side. That may be the reason. But a lot of traffic flows down Clark Ave and they do have to have something to entice them to stop there. Walmart is close and the Pilot Truck Stop are all big competition and only have to go 2 blocks to them. Not so in West Albany.

stc1993 1 year, 6 months ago

They have that truckstop on the corner of 300 & clark ave. they have such a large volume they can sell it cheaper & everyone else has to follow suit or they would be out of business is what I think. Plus cheaper property like someone else said. You have to charge more to make up the difference.

Yep==those of us who have spent a L O N G time being referred to as East Side trailer pack trash (of which I am one) call it our equalizer. We have to have the cheaper gas so we can drive to the northwest part of town and wish we had the fancy restaurants, boutiques, and night clubs on our side of town. Get over it. The east side deserves something from the snobs on the other side of the river.

How can the mayor of Albany Ga. effect the price of gas?

2

bubbasmithredneck 1 year, 6 months ago

I Agree, how is the world can the Mayor have anything to do with this????? The squawker sounds like a Romney voter....hehehe

VSU 1 year, 6 months ago

What's the matter coach, did the herald ban you from posting under coachjohnson42 so now you have to go back posting as bubbasmithredneck?

They say a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but that does not apply to you since you don't have a mind.

Once again the Herald stirs the pot of racial demagoguery. They play black against white, poor against rich, east against west and they make money doing it because idiots love to wallow in the mud. I know too many who love this portion of the paper and it's what is likely read the most BUT it's the worst part of Albany and it provides an anonymous atmosphere for folks to say terribly stupid things and get away without truly understanding the pain they cause. The Herald probably pulls the worst stuff out and only publishes the less offensive of the bunch but I'd be happy to see it go OR at a minimum placed in a part of the paper that would be innocuous.

The mayor can't control gas prices. Why someone would think that I would never know. Competition runs gas prices, not government at least not on the local level. You want cheaper gas? Then push your representatives in Washington to open up off shore drilling again and allow the pipeline out of Canada. Energy independance is the only way this country can lower fuel prices and put people back to work as well as bring companies back to this country.

VSU 1 year, 6 months ago

That won't happen under Obuma!

paymyownway 1 year, 6 months ago

Went to the Sunbelt Expo on Wednesday. The best part was the $3.47/gallon gas in Doerun.

2

tywebb 1 year, 6 months ago

Doerun??? is that right off of the interstate too???? well, there goes that theory from the posters above.

Reading these comments just reinforces the fact of why I don't live in Awwllbinny anymore. You can just read this blog and tell what types of education levels we are dealing with..sad

I don't think moving to Cordele constitutes "moving on up." On the bright side, you are close to I75.

People, please have some class. We all know the whole US is hurting but most of all we are hurting ourselves with personal attacks. Please help preserve some of Albany pride that seems to be fast slipping away.

Most of all, I hope you all will get out and vote. Personally, I voted Republican until 2008 but will again vote for a President who is doing his very best for everyone. Please do not make this a racist vote against a black man. Above all, please understand what Mitt Romney is going to do to this country and to women. He could care less about the 47% which includes military and seniors. He is only concerned for giving himself and the rich more breaks and why should any President keep his money in offshore accounts and be compensated for each American he was responsible for laying off and sending that job to China?

1

dmyers80 1 year, 6 months ago

I believe that its the pilot truck stop... I've worked down clark ave for about 5 years now and pilot's gas is always 5 to 7 cents cheaper than everyone else... so the others have to drop their prices in order to compete!
