ALBANY, Ga. — A partnership between the Georgia Historical Society and the Georgia Department of Transportation will bring an informational meeting to Albany Monday.
The meeting is to allow the public to assist organizers in putting together a more complete historical picture of the Dixie Highway System — a network of roadways that was built around 1914 to connect the Midwest and the South.
Locally, Albany was tied to the Dixie Highway System by U.S. 19, which joined the western branch of the system.
Organizers will hold a meeting Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bridge House downtown and are asking people to bring any photos or documents or other mementos that have to do with the construction of the highway.
