CROSSVILLE, TN -- Joyce Lavern Ferry, age 72, of Crossville, TN, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
She was born October 24,1939 in Ringgold, GA, daughter of the late Woodrow & Helen (Eldridge) Howard. Mrs. Ferry was retired from Walden & Kirkland Insurance Company as a C.P.C.U. underwriter, the first woman in South Georgia to hold this certificate. She was a member of the Albany Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia.
She is survived by her husband, Michael E. Ferry, Crossville, TN; two sons, Bobby Vaughn, Crossville, TN and Phil Vaughn (Sharon), Knoxville, TN; her daughter. Vicky Vaughn (Randy Cantrell), Knoxville, TN; two step-sons, Ray Ferry (Nicole), Los Alamos, NM and Dan Ferry (Laurie), Conners, GA; two brothers, Jimmy Howard, Chattanooga, TN and Pete Howard, Chattanooga, TN; she is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her dog Scout.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Richard Howard.
Joyce was passionate about her family, the University of Tennessee Lady Vols, Lake Tansi, and her flowers. She was highly involved in the Lake Tansi Exchange Club, having twice served as its President, and was a current state director of the National Exchange Club. Thousands of area children benefited from her dedicated work with the Cumberland County Imagination Library and the Holland J. Stephens Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. She was also a strong supporter of the Avalon Center, the House of Hope, and Breast Cancer Prevention. Joyce was a willing volunteer and served on numerous committees. Her constant smile and ever- present willingness to lend a helping hand touched the heart of everyone who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at the Lake Tansi Thunderbird Recreation Center on Sunday, October 28th at 3PM. The family will receive visitors there from 2PM - 3PM.
