ALBANY -- Rebecca C. Dennis, 96, of Albany died Sunday, 21 October. Born in Geiger, AL and raised in Colomokee, GA, the eldest child of the late Guy and Elizabeth Collins, she had been a resident of Albany since 1948.
She was a charter member of the Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Susannah Wesley Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.
Rebecca was a retired U.S. civil servant who served at Turner Air Force Base, the Naval Air Station, Albany and the U.S. Marine Corps Supply Center, Albany. She and her late husband, Frank Dennis, operated a toy and crafts store - Hobbycrafts - in downtown Albany for many years.
She was a Past President of the Albany Business and Professional Women's club, 1976-1978, and was honored as the 1978 BP& W, Woman of Achievement.
Later in her life she deeply enjoyed the company of a close circle of longtime friends and was an avid bridge player.
Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Franklin Dennis, Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca Kay Dennis; and two brothers --Bill Collins of Blakely and Jesse Collins of Albany.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Dennis Bales and son-in-law, Alvin S. Bales of Herndon, Virginia, two sisters, Evelyn Bruner of Thomasville and Virginia Willis of Colomokee, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Kimbrell-Stern from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, 25 October. 25, 2012.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, 26 October at the Mable Haley Chapel, Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by Reverend Leigh Ann Raynor and Reverend William E Collins. Interment will immediately follow at Floral Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be James Bruner, Homer Willis, Winfred Willis, Charles Williams, Brady Lee and Jack Andrews.
