ALBANY — Albany Tech’s men’s and women’s basketball programs will host a five-game jamboree beginning today at Albany State with all proceeds going toward breast cancer awareness.
The first game begins at 2 p.m., while local teams will be on the court for the final three games. The Darton men’s club team will play Albany Tech at 4:30 p.m., the Albany State and Albany Tech women will play at 5:45 p.m. and the Albany Tech men and the Albany Shockwave, a first-year semi-pro team, will play at 7 p.m.
“That should be a good game between us and the Shockwave,” Albany Tech coach Sylvester Patterson said. “They like to push the ball up the court, and we like to get up and down. Hopefully we can stay with them.”
ALBANY MOTOR SPEEDWAY READY FOR BIG EVENT SATURDAY:
ALBANY — Albany Motor Speedway is set to host its 4th annual Season Championship and Halloween Bash on Saturday.
Drivers from Florida, Georgia and Alabama will compete for points championships in all classes, while Late Models will compete in the NeSmith and National Late Model Series guidelines.
In addition to racing, children will have various activities to participate in, including a costume contest and trick or treating with the drivers at intermission.
Gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and practice will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the first race.

MILLER SOFTBALL WINS AT STATE; BACONTON, SEMINOLE FALL:
COLUMBUS — Miller County made the most of its first trip to the state softball Elite 8 round with a thrilling, 3-1 win in eight innings against Telfair County in Thursday’s first game of the Class A tournament, securing at least a Top 6 finish.
Miller County’s Morgan Mock drove in two runs in the top of the eighth, which proved to be the game winner, and pitcher Rachel Grimsley threw all eight innings to get the win.
The Lady Pirates, however, lost to Mt. Zion, 9-3, in the second round to fall to the loser’s bracket, where they will play either Schley County or Baconton Charter at 1 p.m. today.
Baconton lost to Gordon Lee, 8-0, in the opener and will play Schley in an elimination game at 9 a.m., while Seminole County lost its opener to Mt. Zion, 11-3, and will play Telfair County in a loser’s bracket game at 9 a.m.
