LEESBURG, Ga. — It didn't take a Lee County jury an hour to find Anthony E. Scott guilty on all charges Thursday, according to Lewis R. Lamb, chief assistant district attorney for the Southwestern Judicial Circuit, which includes Lee County.
Scott fatally shot his wife, 54-year-old Cathy Scott, in the head twice and also in the arm and body once each at their 183 Old Smithville Road home in April 2011. The jury found Scott was guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony.
"He was sentenced to life in prison on the charges plus five years for the gun charge (by Judge James Sizemore)," Lamb said. "It was a tough case when you think about somebody's life gone. I could have pled it down to voluntary manslaughter, but I didn't think it was appropriate."
Lamb had previously said he also did not think the death penalty was appropriate. Scott will be more than 84 years old before he can petition for parole.
The trial started Monday in Lee County Circuit Court.
