ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that the preliminary unemployment rate in metro Albany declined to 9.4 percent in September, down five-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 9.9 percent in August. The rate was 10.7 percent in September 2011.
The rate declined primarily because of 148 fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, trade, administrative and support services, and professional and technical services, plus 950 more people were employed.
Metro Athens continued to have the lowest area jobless rate at 6.4 percent, while metro Dalton had the highest at 11.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 9.0 percent in September, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 9.2 percent in August. The jobless rate was 9.8 percent in September a year ago.
While the state lost 400 jobs from August to September, it actually gained 61,800 jobs since the 3,877,600 in September of 2011, climbing to 3,939,400.
In metro Albany, the number of jobs increased to 60,000 in September, up by 200 from August, and up by 1,200 from 58,800 in September 2011.

I just love the way things always seem to get better right before a big national election when a Democrat is in the saddle. So we had 148 fewer layoffs, which of course means we are still having layoffs, and there were 950 more hired to be cashiers who won't be at the register when one checks out and stock clerks who put nothing on the shelves. Unfortunately, we pay people to generate and report these numbers.

This country's economic problem is freaking hilarious too me!!! The main reason we're all in this mess is because of a President that " YOU" people seem to support. I wish one day some of you would just be honest with yourselves and say... " The reason you want PRESIDENT Obama out of office is because you don't want a black man in such a powerful position such as!" You white people can't stand the fact that a black man is running and representative this country!!! The same goes for this city! You hate the fact that someone of color AND a WOMAN is running this city! And to go even deeper.... that's why some of you, if not all dislike Albany State, Dr. Murfree, and/ or anyone or thing that is being administered by a black individual!!!! I think that Asualum just escaped from the asylum. I think asualum is the same individiual that recently criticized the recent music festival at the fair grounds. Carlton Fletcher basically tore the writer of the article a new one in his recent article in which he included the entire facebook rant. The entire rant was laced with explitives and racial overtones.

Like it or not, the economy IS improving, and it would be doing much better if the Republicans in Congress wouldn't be doing everything in their power to block every bit of Legislation that could help. They are holding 99% of Americans hostage for the sole benefit of the top 1% wealthiest Americans.
If the Republican way worked so "wonderfully," then why, pray tell, was our Country in such bad shape when Bill Clinton took office as President, who turned a huge deficit into a huge surplus, which President George W. Bush immediately turned right back into a HUGH deficit that ran into the largest RECESSION since our GREAT DEPRESSION
Since President Obama has been in office, thins have actually started turning back around for the better.
These things are happening by "accident". The Republican "theory" of "trickle down" economics doesn't work because there's an assumption that the rich and large corporations who get these large tax benefits put the money right back into OUR economy, and hire OUR employees.
This isn't what's happening. American workers are outsourced, tax dollars are NOT being rolled back into businesses that hire more Americans, who would pay more tax dollars, which would, in turn, drive more demand of American products and services. They're putting American dollars overseas to build the plants as well, or just depositing it to get more interest, so they can make more money.
This means there isn't any "trickle down" to the middle class, causing the largest rift between the wealthy class and everyone else in history. And how can they manage to do this? Because they have the financial resources to to convince everyone that it's in their best interest, just like the royals used to tell their kingdoms.

You need to take or retake econ 101. This is not rocket science. If it becomes to expensive for businesses to hire employees due to increased government taxation, then the business will fold and no jobs will be created. Now you have a defunct business and even more people out of work. I don't know why this concept is so hard for our President and other democrats to understand. Oh, and the unemployment rate is not down, the government omitted the people who have stopped looking for work. Therefore the "unemployment" number appears lower. It's called fudging the numbers to give a false idea that the economy is improving. The dems and liberal media are just telling the American people what they want to hear. I thought it very ironic that the "new" unemployment numbers were released after Obama was pounded by Romney in the first debate. (Obama was pounded in all three debates for that matter.)

Funny the economy was at a stalemate for several months, then about a month before re election time suddenly the economy is booming and in better shape than it has been in 20 years, or at least that is what they try to tell you. Meanwhile another business just shut down.
