ALBANY -- Mother Ozzie R. Seay, affectionately known as "Big Mama" and "Sister", began her earthly journey on September 9, 1918 to the late John James Moses Rutland and Queen Elizabeth Clark Rutland Starling in Lumber City, Turner County, Georgia.
Mother Seay accepted Christ at early age and was baptized and a member of the Gum Creek Missionary Baptist church. After moving to Albany she was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Albany, she later became a member of New Union Grove Baptist and was a faithful member for over 30 years. In 1993 she became a founding member of The Greater Unity Missionary Baptist which is now The Greater New Morning Star Church where she has served as the Church Mother since its organization, She also served as president of the mission ministry, advisor to the deaconess ministry, treasurer of the Sunday school, president of the pastor's aide and vice president of the choir; during the churches down time she was connected to the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Sr. Mission Ministry, Mother's Ministry, Senior Choir Ministry and a faithful attendee of Sunday School. Mother Seay was a board member of the Camilla Baptist Association for many years.
Mother Seay quietly and quickly transitioned from this life to be forever with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Wynfield Park Heath & Rehabilitation. She was preceded in death by one son, Otis Seay, Sr.
She leaves to Mourn and cherish her memories three caring, loving and devoted children Minster Queen B. Lumpkin and Minister Janice S. Browner both of Albany, Johnny C. (Joyce) Seay of Jacksonville, FL; A grandson raised as her own Pastor McKebia Bray, Sr. of Albany; a brother Deacon Willie J. (Mary) Starling of Jacksonville, FLA; 2 sisters-in-law Lovie Rutland (Ivan) Wheeler of Cordele, GA, Mother Daisy B. Starling of Albany; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grands; 3 great great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00AM at Greater Grace Church of God In Christ, 205 S. Westover Blvd. Interment will follow in the Union Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on today, Friday, October 26, 2012 from 9:00AM until 8:00PM at M. L. King Southside Chapel, 1908 M. L. King, Jr. Dr. The family will receive friends at 3403 Plantation Drive.
