Of course he is racist. That is his middle name. Dr. Price is not even from around here and I do not know her, but feel that not being from here, she has no hidden agendas. The whites on the school board seem to have the children at heart more than the black members. It seems that the black members are out to stroke their tail feathers. They really could care less about the children learning.

I went to the debate and was unimpressed by Lorenzo. He did not state any stats or facts. All he talked about was $$$, which already lines his pockets and those of his cronies. He talked about his truancy program, but gave no stats regarding the success(using this term loosely) of the program. Apparently, the program does not work well. It is just a way for this opportunist to take advantage of the children and their families. Question, why no direct answer from Heard about the number of kids he had or has in DCSS?legitimate or illegitimate?
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
The reason Rev Heard didn't talk about the stats for his programs is because they are disgraceful. They have been published for the most recent year and Dr. Lane Price was a classic lady for not telling people what they were. The black community knows them too but damned well won't reveal them because they are trying despartely to retain the DoCoSBd check book in the control of the incestuous nest of corrupt rogues. Black preachers know the new Escalades and BMW's are gone if the check book is lost and ASU is removed as Personnel Office at DCSS a lot of black preachers have lightened collection plates, so to speak. The level of incompetence in educators coming from ASU and at DCSS is staggering. Not that the teachers are bad people or poorly intended they are just flat out incompetent. But that's a different story. Heard's program is just inadequate and ineffective.

Thats an awfully big remark to make with no evidence....I hope you have some proof...As a product of both I take offense to that last statement...I am far from an incompetent teacher and would challenge you to come to my class anytime to see the work I do and stand by that statement'...I know plenty of teachers who come from both the DCSS and ASU who have been chosen as Teacher of the Year by their school districts as well as awarded numerous other achievements on local state and national levels...now are there some who are incompetent?? Absolutely, but not just limited to the ASU and DCSS....This election may/may not reek of shadiness but at the end of the day the children is what should be the most important concern.
doingwhatisright 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Unfortunately, the election of each school's TOY is a laughing matter. Forget whether the candidates made a difference....emphasis is placed on whether the individual is someone's friend, go for, best dressed, sorority sis, frat bro, family problems, won something, loudest, Principal's or Sec't favorite, had a baby, got a pay to go advance degree, a coach of some sort...just another day in the DCSS.
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Duane, are you saying you are a product of Heard's program or of ASU or of DOCOSS? Don't understand your thesis here beyond you are offering a position in defense of Heard's candidacy which I won't address as it's your right to support whom you please. As for the criticism I have raised about Heard's program that's well documented publicly. As for statistics on DOCOSS teachers doing a great job, do you know the graduation rate? The drop out rate? The absentee rate? Teacher absentee rate? Test scores? High school graduates' college attendance and graduation rates? Teachers' academic and test standings? Percentage of DOCOSS who have ASU degrees? How many have masters or higher degrees from schools other than ASU and non-accredited programs? I am glad you took humbrage at my assertions. I hope you are a competent teacher as you claim.
I did not suggest the election reeks of shadiness. On the contrary, I think it is perfectly clear. We know why Dr. Price is running and we know she has only one agenda, to help the students. We know she is running against a person who has his own agenda and no one is confused about that. What you need to do is be honest about your agenda.
If it were true, as you say, at the end of the day the children are the most important concern, we would not be having this discussion. The current school board and administration haven't the slightest concern about the students and families in the DOCOSS. The current school system administrators are self-serving, greedy and corrupt. So join us, Duane Kelly, to achieve your purported objective to elevate the children to be our most important concern.

It was not racist because he is black and you must have forgotten that a black can say those things without fear of being considered racist. Oh and Mr. Heard is just a pretty dressed up Tommy Postell and he just wants to be elected to keep the racial pot stirred.
Jimboob 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Black or white, we all know what this is about... Children and education have nothing to do with why Rev. Heard is running. My only question is what standard will the write in ballots be held to?
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I don't give a darn about the racist stuff but I would like to know how Heard's old Marine housing on GA AV keeps its tax free status when he is collecting rent from at least some tenants. About $60,000 tax shed annually on these properties.
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Perhaps I should have said I'm not interested in entering the racist debate since there is little doubt in my mind and less chance of changing the mind of others. As long as there is money and power to be had from race, there will be those deemed "racist" by the benefactors. So, there is little need to discuss, it will always be.
dmyers80 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Not only is that racist... it sounds like cheating to me... How is that not against the rules ,he basically said that " I'll let you two have the election and arterwards I'll go against the winner so that I dont have to compete against both of you"

Talk about Reverands with Cash Cow in Albany, Rev Roosevelt Carter via the church on Gillionvile owns and operates the very large Laundrymat on Stuart by the Mall. It is all Cash business. He says the money is used by the church to fund programs. Meaning Tax Exempt business. Of course Obama, IRS boys have a hands off policy on this kind of stuff.
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Am2, FluffnFold is not exempt from property/equipment taxes. It is listed on DoCoTaxAss site as C3 Commercial at slightly less than $476K. It was purchased for $500K in 2005. If it were exempt it would be E2 or E3 I believe. I had the same thoughts you did but was corrected. The rumor was they had tried to go exempt.
Thurman 6 months, 3 weeks ago
So, what happened to the "mega-church" that Reverand Carter presided over on Gillionville? It's now an empty shell with the lettering on the sign stating that the congregation will be meeting at an address on Oglethorpe.
Sister_Ruby 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Good question..........another over-reach resulting in foreclosure is the answer. Of course THEY all expected OBAMA to send take the money out of MY pocket and send it to THEM to pay for it all.
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
If I remember correctly, the building was foreclosed on and then rented by them for a time. Times are tough.
Amazed2 6 months, 3 weeks ago
10-4 thanks for update. The laundry may not be exempt but it is still all cash flow business. Again thanks for update. I was told that back when it opened.
Amazed2 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Fryartuk?? Does that also mean the Church pays Federal and State tax like they should?
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I really don't know. W expanded the faith based programs and I really have no idea if IRS has expanded leniency. I do know the local Scouts own rental property on which they file local property tax, federal and state tax. Both of the large United Methodist Churches allow their kitchens to be used by for-profit catering businesses. How they remain tax exempt and why they don't have to pay taxes on their property and equipment is a conundrum.
dingleberry 6 months, 3 weeks ago
There are non-profits that pay taxes on their profit components. Whether, it is the proper amount is an unknown, and Phoebe is also in this category.
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
It isn't the churches in this county.
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
There are over 800 parcels claimed to be "church" property.

The tax code should be amended and all 501 c3's abolished . It is a scam on the American people and often meant to line the pockets of the administrators of the 501 c3. There are some legitimate 501 c3's but ,they should also have to pay taxes imo.
FryarTuk 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree 100%. Also non-profit trusts should be discontinued from exemption.

Interesting.......but have you any idea how many of the small business owners, ie, the convenience store owners you are subsidizing with Medicare and SSI? Most of them come in the US under the USCIS Employment-Based Immigration Investor Program, also known as the “EB-5,” created by Congress in 1990 to stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital investment by foreign investors. By that they mean convenience store owners and for $500K they can come to the US and get a green card buy a store in a rural location and soon bring over a whole family. Soon mama and papa and auntie and uncle are on welfare, food stamps and SSI, and driving big SUV's, wearing the gold chains around their necks, and you wonder how they do it? Well duh....pay them minimum wage and show them with the true dependents they have, usually 6 or 7 children, but do not show that they go to private school or wear fine clothes or drive nice Toyoto SUV's. If you like you can read all about the EB-5 program under the US Citizenship and Immigration Services page, or you can probably do a Google search. It is quite interesting to read. When my daughter was in college in the 80's she roomed with a girl who had full tuition paid, because she was considered needy and told her that she was going to get a new car but she was having a hard time deciding on a new Volkswagen or a Mercedes....her parents owned 3 Chinese restaurants in the city and were on public assistance and my daughter asked her how they could afford a new car, especially a Mercedes. She laughed and told her how they did it. The old minimum wage trick, then they could qualify for assistance, free college for her and the brother, free Medicaid card, free dental, bring Papasan and Mamasan, aunts and uncles over from China and free for them too. I don't know if this URL will pop up or not.but it is an eye opener......So you have a lot more than the tax dollars that the religious organizations don't pay and the pulpit pimps and pimpettes stuff in their pockets. We get shafted every way we turn. It is a never ending battle of corruption and we are getting so sick of it. I know I am and it seems from the anger I see every day on here everyone is too. Wonder when it will ever stop. Never I am sure. The laws are made but there always seems to be some loophole somewhere to protect the guilty.

Another sad element about the situation is when you go into their establishments to purchase food or product they don't even ring it up in their cash drawer. They charge for state sales tax but then don't report and pay them. They don't appreciate their responsibility for the good fortune they rarely deserve sufficiently to throw in for the general welfare.
dingleberry 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Let me blow your nickers off with this one. Remember the recent Herald article about the $700 million in tax exempt property in DoCo? Would you believe that the amount is very likely understated by at least $700 million. In other words, the tax exempt property may be valued at $1.4 billion or more. You won't read or hear about this one from the local media. None are interested in reporting on the prospect of the number being higher.
Cranky 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Why would anyone be interested in reporting it when the ones who are not reporting it are riding the honey wagon of greed? Makes sense to me! I mean would you bite the hand that feeds you if it fed you so well?
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I would think those who pay taxes would be interested in knowing how many don't pay tax but perhaps that is just me. There are over 4,000 parcels of tax exempt property.
Cranky 6 months, 3 weeks ago
I don't pay taxes in Georgia (well I sorta do, on some family property I inherited along with my sister) but suppose most of the properties are those that are in some way religious based or belong to PPMH? It seems everytime I look at the newspaper someone is opening some house of prayer or house of healing or some religious house that has something to do with religion. There is usually a listing of 2 people too, whom I suspect are the occupants of the household, Mr. and Mrs. Tax Evader, who are trying to get one over on the IRS. What gives? If you have so many fine religious people with so many fine religious places for people to be saved.....haha....in Albany and DoCo why is it such a horrible place, full of so many crooked politicians and so many pulpit pimps and pimpettes?
whattheheck 6 months, 3 weeks ago
About 800 are "church" property. The supposed 40 percent assessed value of those properties is $17 million which is way understated. For example, Sherwood, Byne, Mt Zion and other mega churches are shown for land value only. There are hundreds of churches that are little more than a scam tax dodge.
