Stolen pickup set afire in woods

ALBANY, Ga. — A burning 1998 gray Chevrolet Silverado brought Albany Fire Department firefighters to the wooded area at the 1400 block of Silica Road at about 7:30 a.m. Friday, a fire department official stated.

The Silverado was identified at about 8 a.m. as stolen from 743 E. Broad Ave., about 2.5 miles from the woods, according to an Albany Police Department report.

“The fire was intentionally set,” Arson Investigator Sam Harris said. “I can’t tell you how because it is part of the investigation.”

Harris said the pickup fire

was put out fairly rapidly,

but the woods caught fire and took a couple of hours to put out. The truck’s owner was notified by police. A wrecker took the pickup to storage.
