MCLB to host ‘Dirty Devil Dog Mud Run’

MCLB-ALBANY — In a few weeks, the general public will get a taste of what a Marine’s physical training is like.

The general public is invited to Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany for its first “Dirty Devil Dog Mud Run,” set for 10 a.m. on Nov. 17 at the base’s Boyett Park.

Officials say the mud run is not a race, but rather a 3-mile fun run that will introduce members of the community to a Marine Corps-style course run complete with obstacles, challenges and mud. Runners can expect to negotiate tires, ropes and other obstacles as they run, jump, crawl, climb, slog, slide and compete against the obstacles.

All runners must sign a hold-harmless waiver prior to participation. There is no age requirement. Runners younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver, and parents/guardians must accompany all children for the duration of the event.

Drivers without base access must have a current vehicle registration and insurance, and a valid driver’s license upon entering the main gate on Fleming Road. Directions to the site will be provided.

Coordinators say that the Dirty Devil Dog Mud Run also will be an opportunity for members of the community to support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s 2012 Toys for Tots campaign. All runners are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy, $10-$15 in value, for the Toys for Tots bin that will be on hand.

The Toys for Tots campaign officially kicked off on Oct. 15. While officials work to get collection sites established throughout the area, the Salvation Army is expected to begin signing up families wishing to receive toys through the program on Monday.

Registration for the run begins at 9 a.m. Early entry fee is $25 for those who register by Nov. 12, after which the fee is $30. Participants can register onsite the day of the event.

The registration fee includes a long-sleeved T-shirt — which is guaranteed for every participant registered by Nov. 12 — a participation medallion, hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks after the race.

Runners can register online at www.active.com. For more information, call (229) 639-7935.
