Former Monroe star Justin Mims led Belhaven College with four picks as a junior, and this season he already has four through nine games with the Blazers --- good for third in the nation.
JACKSON, Miss. — Justin Mims went from being a star at Monroe to an even bigger star at Belhaven College.
The junior defensive back recorded his fourth pick of the season recently for the NAIA Blazers, making him third in the nation in that category, and he also is fifth in the nation in pass breakups.
He was recently named the conference’s Athlete of the Week following Belhaven’s 66-10 rout of Bluefield College during which Mims recorded five solo tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown — the second time in his career he has done so.
Mims entered his junior year coming off a campaign where he led the Blazers in interceptions. His four interceptions in 2011 put him amongst the top of the conference in takeaways. He returned one of his interceptions 74 yards for a touchdown against Mississippi College. Mims also finished with 54 tackles on the year.
Belhaven is currently 5-5 on the season.
