ALBANY -- Arlie Clifford Griffis, Sr., 83, died Saturday, October 27, 2012. The memorial service will be held Friday, November 2, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Rev. Finbarr Stanton will officiate.
A native of Quitman, GA, Mr. Griffis was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving in WWII, The Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received numerous medals during his military service which included the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Devices, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 4 Devices, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 Devices, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Honorable Service Lapel Button-WWII and the Cold War Recognition Certificate and Medal. HE was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, Air Force Sergeants Association, Trans Atlantic Brides and Parents Association the American Legion and the Turtle Association. He was an electrician and worked with Gay Plumbing and Heating Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Blanche Griffis, two brothers, Furman and Perry Griffis and a sister, Norma Horne.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Irene (Bette) of Leesburg, GA, two daughters, Irene Griffis. of Atlanta and Tracie Arleen G. Brown (Chester) of Leesburg, GA, two sons, David K. Griffis (Gina) of Albany and Arlie C. Griffis Jr., of Leesburg, GA., five grandchildren, Kenneth Griffis, Chester Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Anthony Powell and Andrew Olsen, seven great-grandchildren, Emma Wellington, Liam Porter, Abbie Powell, Ally Powell, Chole Powell, Taylor Olsen and Hannah Olsen and his family members in England.
His precious Emma, her Pa Pa's shadow, whom he adored would say..."1, 2, 3 Pa!"
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at Kimbrell-Stern.
