LOCAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Darton cross country set to hold 'family' meet today; ASU volleyball loses 2012 opener

ALBANY — Today, Darton State College will kick off its annual Darton Cross Country Invitational, but this year it could just as easily be called the Skiles family reunion.

Lady Cavs freshman Alexis Skiles will race against Georgia Southwestern State University, whose women’s team is now coached by her sister and Darton alumna Brittney Skiles. Their brother, Darton alumnus Brandon Skiles, will compete in the men’s race as a senior member of the Columbus State University squad.

And head Darton College cross country coach Bruce Skiles, father of the trio, will be running the show as race director.

“It’s pretty neat,” Bruce said. “It would be tough for me to lose, wouldn’t it?”

The event is free and open to the public. The men’s 8K race begins at 8 a.m., followed by the women’s 5K at 9 a.m.
