ALBANY — Nick Nelson, who had been serving as the executive director for the Albany Museum of Art since 2009, has left for a position in Missouri — prompting at least one staff change at the museum.
Nelson had been named as one of two finalists for the position of director for the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Mo. in June.
He was formally offered the position in early July, reports from the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader indicate.
Nelson replaced the head man who had been with the Springfield museum for 23 years.
He was ultimately selected after two separate searches, according to the News-Leader.
He was up against Connie Gibbons, executive director of the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper, Wyo., for the post.
Nelson took the position in August, which opened an opportunity for Karen Kemp — who had been serving as executive director for the Lily Pad Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Center — to step in as the interim executive director for the museum.
Amy Boney is currently serving as the Lily Pad’s interim executive director.
Another addition to the museum staff is Cristin Kirbo.
She is now working there as the director of marketing and public relations.
Calls seeking additional details were referred to Kemp.
The calls made to Kemp from The Albany Herald went unreturned on Friday.
