Crash shuts down traffic at Jefferson and Liberty

ALBANY, Ga. - Westbound traffic lanes were soon cleared and re-opened following a crash Tuesday afternoon on the Liberty Expressway bypass.

Traffic was being rerouted after a collision at Jefferson Street and Liberty shortly after 5 p.m. Officials had motorists traveling west get off at Jefferson and didn’t allow any motorists heading west to get on the expressway at the Jefferson entrance.

Officials with the Albany Police Department say that Anthony Davis Jr., 23, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu while Erik Taylor, 21, was driving a Ford Ranger pick-up. Davis was reportedly driving eastbound when traffic slowed down in front of him. With not enough time to stop, he crossed over into the median and struck Taylor head-on.

Nobody was transported by EMS. Davis was cited for following too closely.

When will they fix this area on the bypass?? The exit and entrance are too close together and has been the spot of numerous accidents.

I agree SMHgain, that's a terrible intersection. They need to redo it like they did the Moultrie Rd intersection. It's not a perfect solution but a lot better than it is now & it has probably 10 times more traffic than Moultrie Rd.

I agree that the on/off ramps at Jefferson are too close together but this wreck was not right there. It was in between Jefferson & Slappey exits and was closer to Slappey.
