TUESDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Dougherty softball wins fourth game in a row; Lee volleyball rolls

ALBANY — The Dougherty High Lady Trojans’ softball team moved a game above .500 Tuesday with their fourth victory in a row — a 13-5 rout of city rival Albany in five innings.

Dougherty (4-3), which is coming off its first victory against Worth County in school history, was led by Ra’Keta Shelton, who went 3-for-3 at the plate with six RBI, an inside-the-park home run and a double.

Others with good games at the plate for Dougherty were Quinnesha Gatling (4-for-4, RBI), Brittney Fowler (2-for-3, triple) and Resconda Taylor (2-for-3, inside-the-park home run).

Dashaara Brunson was the winning pitcher and improved to 4-0 on the mound, while Alexius Stroble was 1-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run to lead Monroe at the plate.

The Lady Trojans play again Thursday at Westover.

SHERWOOD 7, TERRELL ACADEMY 0: Anna Laine Brock struck out 11 and pitched a shutout to lead Sherwood past Terrell Academy in a GISA Region 2-AA contest.

Leaders at the plate for Sherwood were Marylen Kennedy (2-for-4), Emily Everson (2-for-4, RBI), Jamie McPherson (2-for-3, RBI), Lakese Brown (triple, two RBI) Christina Charles (RBI).

Sherwood, which improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the region, plays again Thursday at Brookwood.

CRISP ACADEMY 7, WESTWOOD 0: Westwood fell to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in GISA Region 2-A Tuesday.

Westwood’s Claire Collins was the losing pitcher and was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Sage Sandefur was 3-for-3, Hannah Hinesley was 2-for-3 and Carrie Nobles was 2-for-3.

Westwood plays again Tuesday at Georgia Christian.

LEE COUNTY 4, SCHLEY COUNTY 2: Erin Callaway struck out five in five innings to get the win on the mound for the Lady Trojans, who improved to 10-6 overall.

Ashley Nichols was 3-for-3 to lead Lee County at the plate, while Hailey Scott was 2-for-3 with a double.

The Lady Trojans play their Region 1-AAAAA opener Thursday at Bainbridge.

TIFTAREA 11, DEERFIELD-WINDSOR 4: Deerfield (2-6) got a big game from Alex Halloway, who went 1-for-3 and drove in two runs, and Kendall Freeman and Browning Lane both went 1-for-2 in the loss.

DWS hosts Southwest Georgia Academy at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Volleyball

QUITMAN — The Lee County volleyball team easily beat host Brooks County on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-11.

Maggie O’Conner led the way with five kills and three aces, while Anna Jones added four kills and four aces, Sarah Dowling had four kills and two aces and Brandi Minix dished out a team-high nine assists.

The Lady Trojans (7-7) begin their area schedule Tuesday against Northside Columbus.
