ALBANY, Ga. -- Georgia Trend's annual list of Top 100 Public Companies in Georgia has been released and Heritage Financial Group, Inc., holding company for HeritageBank of the South, is among the elite lineup of Georgia businesses.

Heritage ranks No. 93 on the list published by Georgia Trend, a business publication with statewide distribution. The banking company is the only Albany-based company to make the list.

The magazine reports Heritage has 2011 revenue of $57 million and has 327 employees. O. Leonard Dorminey is the top executive.

Georgia Trend reports that Heritage Financial Corp. outperformed the average growth posted by the combined firms on the list of Top 100 public companies.

Overall, companies on the list reflected total revenue increased by almost 9 percent over the previous year to bring the total to $376 billion, as determined by S&P Capital IQ, a division of Standard & Poor's, the firm that prepares this annual list for Georgia Trend.

In comparison, Heritage Financial Group, Inc.'s revenue increased by 39 percent over 2010.

This marks the first time for Heritage Financial Group's on the Top 100 Public Companies since the business went fully public in 2010.

Founded in 1955, Heritage Financial Group, Inc. is the holding company for HeritageBank of the South, a community-oriented bank serving Georgia, Florida, and Alabama through 23 full-service banking offices and 11 loan production offices.

The company's stock is traded on NASDAQ under the symbol HBOS.

Two other companies based in Southwest Georgia were included in the Top 100 list.

Ameris Bancorp, based in Moultrie, was listed at No. 69 while Colony Bankcorp Inc., based in Fitzgerald, was listed at No. 90. Both are banking companies.

The top five companies on the list, in order, are The Home Depot Inc., United Parcel Service Inc., The Coca-Cola Co., Delta Air Lines Inc. and AFLAC Inc. AFLAC is based in Columbus with the top four based in Atlanta.

If this is the case then why not do something about there being Heritage Bank of the South, and The Heritage Bank. They are two separate banks with nearly the same name and both cover parts of South Georgia. I dunno, if I were in their position, I'd be worried about brand recognition.
