ALBANY, Ga. -- On Friday, traffic patterns on the 2700 block of Meredyth Drive are expected to change as a new entrance to One Meredyth Place will be opened and an existing entrance will be closed permanently.
Drivers will now turn onto Nancy Lopez Lane to enter the parking lot at the front of the building. Additional parking spaces will be opened as well to accommodate patients and patrons.
It will allow for a better flow of traffic in the area, officials with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital say. Hospital officials added that the public's safety is a main concern during these changes, and they are asking that drivers be aware of the new traffic patterns.
Beginning Oct. 1, the entire parking lot will be open, allowing for more parking in advance of the grand opening of the Phoebe Digestive Health Center, which is scheduled for Oct. 28.
Ground was broken for the facility in August 2011, with a "topping out" taking place four months later. The center reflects an investment to the tune of roughly $35 million.
Officials have said the center will allow for the recruitment of gastroenterologists to help offset physician shortages in the specialty.
The project was expected to be completed and ready for occupancy in November, but ended up moving ahead of schedule.
