Why not just make the Minimum Wage $50 per hour? Right?
What do you think that would do to the PRICE of what we have to buy? IDIOT!
Yep another Dumbacrate that has no idea what drives up the cost of Living. The Rising cost of everything you buy is driving by the cost of labor and cost of rising taxes in some form or another. Those selfish companies make so much money and give the workers nothing…so just when was the last time a broke guy gave you a job and paid you?
Well, you gotta face facts. The labor force in the third world countries turn out a much better product than the American worker. Why? Because if they don't work and do an acceptable job to the American consumer, they don't eat!
Sure why don't we just make the minimum wage $25 per hour. Then that hamburger combo will run you about $30! The ignorance never ceases to amaze me!
Here's an idea--pay me what I think I am worth. That way, stupid squawks like this won't bother me since I will be living in my mansion over looking Central Park....
And hey, heres another idea, require all upper level management to live for six months at minimum wage !
They already did that when they were young....you know, when they first started out working hard to make something of themselves which they eventually did. You must be a Shane Claiborne fan.
That would suggest that all those who have six figure incomes got there through their own hard work and all those who are stuck with low wage jobs are just lazy. I know plenty that did work their way to the top and deserve their position. I also know those who were just born into wealth and when a hard working employee who has been faithful for years asks for a raise , they are soon out the door. You can,t paint all wealthy or poor people with the same brush. Greed is still a sin and you of all people should know that. Remember Matt. 22:37-39
But you ARE a Shane Claiborne fan, right?
Nope. I had to google him to find out who he was. He is an interesting character , but he seems to cross the line from noble aspirations into just plain weird. JMO I am just an AMERICAN , not a Rep. or Dem. I just feel bad when I do things wrong and wonder why other people don't.
Well you should check him out if you like Socialistic principles masquerading as Christianity.
I am not a socialist. I believe in fairness. Since you are a "prophetess" tell me: If Jesus were on earth today, would he be a republican or a democrat?
He would be an independent. And we would crucify Him again for sure.
"Major Prophetess" if you would be so kind. Nice to know there's a human being around these parts that can identify what's fair and what isn't.
Thanks, Sis . That is surely the truth.
I love your response!! As far as government is concerned, the majority of employees making more than $50,000 annually are usually not qualified and dole their work load to the "peons" below them. Currently, I am a peon, and have to work very hard for my little bit. This is while my supervisor surfs the internet. I guess they figure they are entitled to a job but don't have to be productive. Now after seeing all the things I have, I will always question the morals and credentials of the higher ups! GREEDY AND LAZY!!
How dumb! Upper management probably did live at minimum wage at one time and decided to pull themselves up by the bootstraps! How much dumber can the folks in this region get???
Bootstraps are now made in China.
...due to the bootstrap makers' union demanding $50 /hr to make freaking boot straps!!
Minimum wage is basically your employer saying "if I could pay you less, I would." Having said that, if you and your fellow employees feel you are under paid, you should organize. An individual employee has very little power, but all the employees banded together do have power.
I'd say in many cases banning together could very well send the jobs to INdia, Indonesia, Mexico and wherever people want to work. Don't throw the baby out with the water! Young folks these days want to start at the TOP; THEY THIINK THEY'RE ENTITLED! God help them!
No , the ones who DO start at the top think they're entitled.
This is another example of people wanting free money, not everybody is going to make $100,000 a year, particularly a minimum wage type job but some people expect that. Some have the attitude that they will need to pay him $20.00 an hour just to work at McDonalds...yeah right...good luck on that one. I had a person come to my house saying he would mow my lawn for $200, I was like "Oh you would, would you?" Why should I pay you $200, when someone else would mow it for $50. What makes your work so special that I would pay you $200? his response was, "I don't know, that's just how much I charge" I told him I had a better idea, I would mow my own yard and would not cost me anything but gas. Then you have your people that think after working there 2 months, they should be moved up to a top management position, otherwise they are walking. Well don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Or you could have an illegal alien mow your grass who can then send his kids to public school, the emergency room, the welfare system, and then we all have to pay for the shortfall in income. I am not an economist , but would'nt more wages result in more tax revenue?
Which would result in higher prices and pretty soon we're all right back where we started. Unless of course you'd prefer that "Central Planners" manage all that for us.
Joe Stalin thinks that is a great idea, Sis.
A higher minimum wage leads to higher unemployment for the lower end wage workers. If the owner of a business does not want to raise the cost of his good or service, then he won't be able to afford as many employees. That's basic economics. Look up what Thomas Sowell has to say about it.
Brother Sowell is MY HERO. I got his book "Basic Economics" for Christmas last year.
I love that book! He makes everything so easy to understand. It should be required reading for anyone in power.
Why would I hire an illegal alien to cut my grass when I could to do it myself? However if you want to pay the illegal alien to cut my grass you are more than welcomed to do so.
Greed has two faces. On one side you have people who choose not to work, exploit the welfare system, and then go to Wallyworld and buy chinese made goods becuse they are cheaper than American made. On the other hand you have companies who outsource manufacturing to other countries and then seek to pay less taxes on money they made in THIS country. Caught in the middle are hardworking , tax paying people. Soon , if either party has their way, there will be no middle class. Now , what does THAT sound like?
A business outsources jobs because it is cheaper and more efficient to produce its goods in another country than it is here. Greed of the American worker drives these jobs overseas when you actually think about it. I know that sounds harsh, but the minimum wage plays a large part in this.
"When you set minimum wage levels higher than many inexperienced young people are worth, they don't get hired. It is not rocket science."
I have started jobs at low pay & have had no trouble working my way up. I am one of those damb ynkees whom don't mind working for a living, have retired once. I will tell you the work force in SOWEGA is medioca at best. I have never seen so many employees that think they should be at the top before hey prove themselves. Their thinking is give me a raise or I won't do anything, sad.
Exactly, LargeRobert, just because you may have a minimum wage job does not mean that you are doomed to stay at that pay scale forever. As you become more skilled as an employee your value will with them will rise along with (theoretically) your salary. If it doesn't, then you have the power (to paraphrase Lebron) to take your talents to another job that will appreciate your skills.
Then start your own business Revolution! Become your own A-hole. But first you have to take huge risks, work until you can't, learn and comply with all government regulations, worry to pay bills and hope you have enough left over to buy hamburger. Then you know what will happen? Some skinny no nothing kid will come up and tell you how greedy you are. I would be interested in knowing how you became such an expert in business.
I already have my own business. I pay people accrding to their production. If they don't produce they either don't get a raise or are let go. I could make a lot more myself if I made workers who are desperate for a job work for less. I will never get rich like this and I don"t care. So to answer your question, I'm not an expert in business or anything else for that matter. I do know right from wrong and I know that I am not always right , but I'm gonna keep trying to be.
I am very proud of my granddaughter. She graduated college and got a wonderful job offer...$48K a year to start..lots of travel, a very glamorous job and exactly what she wanted. She could wear all the fancy clothes she loved, fly first class, and go to grad school via the Net and then really get ahead in her field....Management Information Systems. She didn't take the job....she took a job at $26,500 a year...know why? Because she felt it would be wrong...just because she had the good looking college transcript and the fantastic grades she didn't have the work skills needed for the position but knew in time they would come. I say hooray for her and I say BOO HISS to personnel who wanted to hire her based solely on her resume and her college transcript. I think they were not doing her a favor. I think someone needs to work their way up into a position like that, not have it handed to them. You may disagree with me, but I think she did the right thing.
What?! I completely disagree with her decision, but it is hers to make. In this day and age you have to do what's best for you. The company would/should provide adequate training for their investment,
I honestly could not disagree more.
Yes they would have provided training but she just didn't feel it was right for her. She said maybe later when she was more mature. She is only 20 and felt she was a bit too young to take on a job like that, even with the training, at that age, and I agree. Even with her degree she felt her age would be a hinderance in the corporate world. It is nice to be smart but it is hard to be young and smart and finish college at a young age....think about it......how would you feel taking orders from some 20 year old kid? Again I say shame on personnel.....tsk tsk.
Did she have a 4-year degree? One thing that college doesn't teach you, is confidence. That is something that is required to work in the corporate world. I believe the saying is, "fake it 'til you make it." lol
I was that kid years ago. Granted I was 23 instead of 20. I was the youngest one at the office, but by treating everyone with respect, the age difference was not an issue.
If you want to get ahead in this world you have to take advantage of the opportunities presented. I obviously don't know the whole situation. The company hiring should be choosing the best available candidate unless an inexperienced one with enormous potential presents itself. I have had to do a fair amount of hiring and from time to time a candidate with less experience was hired because of the perceived upside "down the road." Again, I obviously do not know the details around your granddaughter's decision as well as you.
She will be a wonderful boss to work for someday because she will have earned respect , not just felt entitled to it.
Thanks revolutionnow....we all think she made the right decision and I think she will certainly earn respect and won't ever regret the decision. She will do fine.
I wish the young gal well, I think the offer she was given was just ,training, travel an the knowledge to become better in the future. Sadly , the wage she took will put her in the just above poverty level. If she has housing cost, student loans, auto payment insurance , health insurance, not to mention food, clothes, entertainment ,lets not forget to start a 401 or personal retirement. It's not going to be easy an 1 job wont cover these living expenses.
She'll be making to much to receive any assistance, an not enough to make the ends meet. I would have to agree with sherwood on this, but I do wish the gal well.
I do appreciate your concern and I hate to sound like a snobbish person but she will be fine as far as the things you are concerned about. She has a car and no payments, no car insurance payments, no health insurance payments, no student loans to repay, etc, and she has a "nest egg" that was provided for her when she was born and has grown nicely these 20 years. Oh wth, I guess we are snobs..hahahaha.....but nice ones..hahahaha......She really is a good girl...don't get the wrong idea about her.....she has had things easy in life and it sounds like she never had to lift a finger but during college she would work odd jobs. She made the right choice.
Yep, and the job she took pays over 13 bucks an hour. Kind of depressing for those who are not blessed with the advantages she has.
Sorry you feel that way. I should have probably kept it to myself but I am proud of her for making a decision like that. People who are born fortunate are nice people believe it or not, and she is just as nice as anyone who was not born with her advantages. I suppose I should keep quiet about the other granddaughter who is getting her PhD then, huh? Oh, and btw, not the Murfree route...she is actually going to a real university....Oxford, and is only 23....I suppose I will be chastised for this now......??
I did'nt mean it like that. I would be proud too. I am mostly addressing the predicament of those who have lost good jobs due to the recession and are trying to figure out how to live on less than 400 bucks a week AND raise a family. I don't expect anyone to be given a job based on anything but productivity. I just don't like seeing someone making more money than their grandchildren can spend while they pay good people as little as possible.
Revolutionnow, I really like the message you are sending out. It's so hard out here right now to make a living and I am in government. I get discouraged when I look around and see all the corruption and people getting promoted who are not qualified. This is sad but some of us joke about the saying that goes "Everyone rises to their own level of incompetence". We joke because at least 90% of upper management doesn't know what they're doing, are completely lazy and/or incompetent. A fair playing field is just not a reality anymore.
Even though I have a two year degree, I started out at THE BOTTOM! It's very hard clawing your way to the top because of all the politics in local government. I refuse to compromise my morals for money but I will continue to work hard until I can finally make enough to support my family.
