Sylvester police arrest suspect in shooting July 31, 2014

ALBANY -- Alfred Wayne Long, Sr., 73, of Albany, GA, died September 11, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at the Cataula United Methodist Church in Cataula, GA. Rev. Dan MacMinn will officiate. Interment will follow in the Clowers Cemetery in Cataula, GA.

A native of Smith Station, AL, Mr. Long graduated from Smith Station High School in 1957. He had resided in Albany, GA since 1971 where he was a supervisor with Flour-Daniels Construction Company until his retirement. Mr. Long was a member of the United Association of Plumbers, Steam Fitters and Pipe Fitters (Local # 52 and he was also a member of Dougherty Lodge # 591 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn G. Long of Albany, GA, four sons, Robert Long of Milwaukee, WI, Michael Wayne Long and his wife, Katherine of Columbus, GA, Alfred Wayne Long, Jr. and his wife, Miranda of New London, CT and Dustin Long of Atlanta, GA, two sisters, Cherrie Flowers and her husband, Woody of Smith Station, AL and Marsha Driskell and her husband, Bob of Salem, AL, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home.
