TUESDAY'S PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Sherwood stays perfect in region; Dougherty wins sixth in a row

TIFTON — Anna Laine Brock pitched a complete game Tuesday to lead the Sherwood softball team to a 7-1 victory against GISA Region 2-AA foe Tiftarea.

“(Tiftarea) had only lost like two ball games this year. It was a pretty big win,” Sherwood coach Michael Hatcher said. “We got a good pitching performance from Anna Laine Brock, and we hit the ball up and down the lineup.”

In seven innings of work, Brock struck out seven and allowed four hits and no earned runs.

Christina Charles was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Sherwood at the plate, while Emily Everson was 2-for-4 with a double, Marylen Kennedy was 2-for-4 and Cailyn Gore was 2-for-4.

The Lady Eagles (7-3, 4-0) play again Thursday at Southwest Georgia Academy.

DWS 12, BROOKWOOD 0: The Lady Knights got their first region win Tuesday as 8th-grader Kendall Kirkland threw her first career shutout.

Deerfield, which has nine 8th-graders on its roster and five 8th-graders in the starting lineup, was led at the plate by Alex Holloway (2-for-2), Emma Schneider (2-for-3, 3B, 3 RBI), Madison Crosby (3-for-3, RBI) and Haley Sells (1-for-2).

The Lady Knights (3-8, 1-5) play again Thursday at home against Terrell Academy.

RANDOLPH SOUTHERN 11, HIGHLAND 1 (4): The Lady Patriots continue to ride the arm of Madison Ragan (3 IP, 7Ks, no hits) and the bat of Braylee Blanton (2-for-3, 2B, 3B, RBI) as they won again Tuesday to improve to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in GISA Region 3-AA.

Morgan Lumpkin pitched the final inning and gave up no hits, while Ragan was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Lumpkin was also 2-for-2 with an RBI. Morgan’s sister, Elizabeth, added a double in the win.

DOUGHERY 20, MITCHELL COUNTY 3, (4): The Lady Trojans won their sixth in a row and improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in region thanks to a monster day from Ra’Keta Shelton (3-for-3, two inside-the-park home runs, a 2B and seven RBI), while De’Shaara Brunson got the win, striking out three in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Also having a good day at the plate was Dominique Anderson (3-for-4, two inside-the-park home runs, 2B, four RBI), Reshonda Taylor (2-for-4, 2B, 3B, three RBI) and Quinnesha Gatling (2-for-3, two RBI).

Dougherty next faces Calhoun County in Edison today in a doubleheader.

SGA 12, TERRELL ACADEMY 3, (5): The Lady Warriors’ winning streak is still going as Allison Warren (4Ks, 3 hits) won, while Kyndal Carver (2-for-3, HR, two RBI), Baylee Everson (two hits, two RBI) and Addison Ponder, Morgan Everson and Madison Jackson all had two hits and an RBI.

SGA next faces Sherwood on Thursday in Damascus.

WESTWOOD 5, GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 1: Claire Collins (5Ks, 4 hits) picked up the win as the Lady Wildcats improved to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in region.

Tatum Brown was the leading hitter, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
