LILBURN, Ga. — Authorities in suburban Atlanta say a police officer shot and killed a man after they say he refused to drop a handgun.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that the shooting happened late Wednesday night in Lilburn, just northeast of Atlanta. Gwinnett County police Cpl. Jake Smith says officers were responding to a domestic dispute call.
Smith tells CBS Atlanta that a 20-year-old man who had been arguing with his parents came out of the house with a handgun.
Police say the officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he refused. Smith said the man eventually pointed the gun at the officers, and one shot was fired at the man, killing him.
Lilburn is about 20 miles northeast of Atlanta.
